  • if a tyre lets go at 70 mph on a british motorway you could die. any number of random thing MAY happen. I was happy with my risk assesment at the time, yet you seem to be saying from a camera snapshot

  • In short .......No Germany ??

  • Find somewhere with a set of Laycock rollers. You can go flat out and stay in the same spot all at the same time!

Well,

I don't want to hand myself on a plate do I ? LOL

Clearly didn't happen then :) LOL louder

Off to Germany in a few weeks on a business trip. I'd be interested to see if all those you tube videos are true, in theory it should hit the rev limiter in 6th whatever that equates too.

Think the 2.0 TSi power peaks at 6k standard, probably get to peak power and not want to rev much harder.

I know in my old Fabia vRS that vMax could only be reached in 6th, 7th was an overdrive gear for cruising; probably a simialr thing with these; max speed likely reached in 5th.

Think it's the same for most cars. The owners manual says that with my DSG 6 that top speed is achieved in 5th gear. Will try it out when we go to Germany again next month :)

You were not there. ;)

Then don't post it yourself on a public forum?

I would have thought it would be a bit more discreet posting here other than members blabbering it all over facebook.?

Incidently.

This was done on a closed road on close to a 7 mile run.

*Sorted the FB issue. Thanks Mate *

Yes, but the chances are you wouldn't.

Agreed. No matter what "risk assessment" you make, anything can happen. It's fine putting yourself at increased risk, but do you not think it even slightly irresponsible putting 3 other people at this risk?

Yawn.

The thread is about top speed. What were you expecting or did you see the title and excitedly jump in ready to throw your holier than thou tosh about. Im pretty sure if his passengers were not happy they would have asked him to slow down. If the car isnt safe at its top speed the manufacturer would limit it. Obvioulsy 70mph is safer but not necessarily if everyone else is doing 140mph.

After reading the yeti thread on 4x4 vs winter tyres earlier i was hoping the moral high horse nonsense was limited to there but it appears not.

Out of curiosity what has anyone had out of a standard TFSI?

Book is 149mph.

Yawn.

agreed :) my passengers also shared the driving, and also enjoyed driving fast :)

It's always nice to see how fast a car can go at least once and Germany is the best place to do it. Provided it was all risk assessed then what's the problem? You can "what if?" about everything and if you did about driving you'd never drive anywhere. Perhaps I should invest in a cotton wool factory ready for all these do-gooders wanting to wrap us up in it.

Yawn.

I did this in the UK last year , found a nice long straight in Norfolk;)

On the same day as they did this , although they were allowed a longer run than us

Lots of airfields run top speed events just keep an eye out for them

Glad you agree :giggle:

Seriously. Your response is to edit in the same word i just used into your post. My post 14.38 your edit 14.55.

Slightly paradoxical being so childish now in comparison to your moral crusader approach earlier.

Im not entering a stupid exchange with yourself so all i say is your time might be better spent preaching your morals in another thread.

I find the m6 toll to be a fine stretch of road to test out top speed, used to travel down it every weekend well into 3 figures in my skyline, use it about 3 times a week in the truck and have yet to see a policeman. (which doesn't mean they don't patrol it but I have yet to see one)

Good lad.

What do you call someone who shouts "Troll" every time he reads something he has a problem with?

Its plain cars that tend to police the M6 toll , ironically often Octavias

Yea I've seen many marked and unmarked police cars on the toll. Normally after they have pulled a BMW.

All depends how much power one has. A doubt a std tsi will reach a real 149 which is around 5500 or slightly less. There are several YouTube films of stage 1 maxing at 158 gps speed which appear to be limited by max engine speed.

I hear there's a Pope job up for grabs somewhere :)

I have to say i have no desire to test top speed. For me it it about the acceleration ! Lets face it your not going to test the top speed on public road in the UK unless you want the possibility of a fine!

Having said that,i got the need for speed out of my system in the 1980's when it was still possible, but i was on motorbike then.
