In Car Cameras

Rob,

I also had this problem whatever your camera says to put in, ie 32Gb half it. That cured mine.

Or try this.

I got a result on the fake memory cards - raised a return with Ebay just to annoy the seller after they tried to blackmail me to change feedback in exchange for a partial refund. They asked for photos

  • Can you actually see where you are going?!?!?!

  • OK, so if you remember, I ordered a cheap 720p dashcam from China, I saw several reviews that praised its video clarity, even at night, and with GPS included for £31 I couldnt really go wrong. Sadly,

Well my Mobius is acting as a good deterrent so far..... What seems like a muppet incident a week before fitting the camera has gone to nothing at all since I fitted it..... Was looking forward to posting the look at this muppet videos too. :D

I am not getting along with the A118 at all. It's working but twice now it has corrupted SD cards. I assumed the first time it was because it was a cheap no-name one so I bought a more expensive AData one and it has corrupted that one too. Oly one of teh files was readable out of 8Gb of data and it has glitches in the recording.

The SD card won't even format in my PC.

Could this be some sort of power issue? Maybe getting spikes when I start the engine? How can I protect it?

Can't say I've had any issues with mine. I've got a Kingston 32gb class 10 and it's been fine.

I've also pointed the camera down a bit, and it has massively helped the metering. A bright sky no longer makes the image really dark.

Am back at work this week, so will probably "see" some interesting sights to post up.

The A118 is doing my head in. It's great when it works:

But I can't trust it at all. It records about an hour, or 8Gb of files then every file it writes after that is the right size but corrupted and unreadable.

Rob: On the Mobius forums that problem seems to relate to a power supply i,e, bullet charger of 1A - as are a few others admittedly.

I know yours is not a Mobius but ....

best,

Matt

Thanks :) Tempted to chop the lighter socket thing off and hard wire it to the power supply and earth, see if that cures it.

I am going for a 2A connector and if that fails, getting one of the USB adapters mentioned in FUBAR's 12V socket installation thread.

And after that swear and drink tea if it still happens....

Umm... You know you can't just chop the plug off & squirt 12V into a 5V camera?

I'm sure you do...

I have a 12v-5v DC converter also. Should probably have mentioned that :D

I have solved my problems - it's working properly now :)

I had two issues. One was the earth on the connection I made for the socket behind the dash wasn't good enough. I re-wired my gauges, DRLs and dashcam to a factory earthing pint and they all suddenly work better.

The second issue was I had bought fake SD cards - they reported as 32Gb but were bodged 8Gb ones, so as soon as it saved over 8Gb it looked like all files were corrupted. The Ebay seller is refusing a refund and saying they will give me a partial refund if I revise my feedback to positive first, so they can get stuffed.

Glad you've got it sorted Rob :)

Fake cards really are getting hard to avoid now, which is why I paid a bit more and got mine direct from Amazon.

Agreed Simeon

eBay is becoming rife with Fake goods .....Im surprised that HM Customs don't take more action TBH

Anyone willing to fit mine in the West Yorkshire area if I buy one?? :D

Simbo is quite adept at doing them! :-o

Happy to help... I'm in Bradford. Gizza yell when you get your camera!

Sure will cheers dude! :)

Any model your better at fitting or are they all the same?

Most cameras let you adjust his long they record for after the power goes off. Just turn that up to ten minutes and you'll be fine.

when do you think we'll start to see dashcams incorporated into the tech in a car - "just add a memory card" ?

Is it happening already ?

The danger for car makers is that the memory cards need reformatting from time to time.

In some countries they would sue the car maker if they had an accident and then found out the camera wasn't working...

I think it won't be long before it'll be done "properly":

4K camera, front and rear)

HDD recording

integration into CANBus (so you can see evertyhing the car was doing at the time....speed, lights, steering angle, throttle position etc etc)

.......better than an aircraft blackbox!

It'll be the next thing to add - lots of cars are starting to come with cameras anyway for lane assist, sign recognition and so on, so adding video recording capability will cost them £10 and us £400.

Simbo, what's your OBD box doing?

Do those apps display any faults that pop up? What do you display on your phone when you're using the apps?

Carista can check fault codes, VCDS is much better though. Have a look at the apps on the Play Store... Screenshots etc

Sorry for all the OT question Simbo, where did you get the OBD adaptor from? I presume that for the Superb it has to be CAN compatible?
