In Car Cameras

Apologies for post duplication, posted already in Octavia II Dash Cams thread.

Was having issues with my Mobius with it just not recording. Have updated the firmware to the latest version, formatted the memory card, and changed the USB charger in my hidden 12v socket and it hasn't missed a beat since.

Also just received a Mini 0805 in the post yesterday. Has a micro USB connector rather than the mini USB of the Mobius, so need a new USB cable or a mini-micro USB adapter. Will either put the Mobius in the rear of my car or in my girlfriend's Picanto.

Anyone who has a rear camera set up, how have you done it so that it starts on ignition live? Heard about needing to tap into one of the rear wiper wires? I have a 12V socket in the boot but it's permanent live so no good for a camera.

I got a result on the fake memory cards - raised a return with Ebay just to annoy the seller after they tried to blackmail me to change feedback in exchange for a partial refund. They asked for photos

  • Can you actually see where you are going?!?!?!

  • OK, so if you remember, I ordered a cheap 720p dashcam from China, I saw several reviews that praised its video clarity, even at night, and with GPS included for £31 I couldnt really go wrong. Sadly,

Mine's a saloon (no rear wiper), but I ran a wire to the fuse box and used a piggy back fuse. Straightforward enough and easy to tuck the cable under the plastic door surrounds.

Just confused the life out of me as I replied to it in the other thread a moment ago :P

I have opted in the last 3 cars to run a live from the fusebox via a piggyback adapter and put 2 12v sockets in the boot one at each side at tops, then use an earthing point back there or run a dual cable and use the same one at front as other camera. That way I can power camera on a short neatly routed cable and have another 12V socket in the boot still for anything I ever need. Used it for compressor a good few times now when checking pressures on my bike.

Had an email today that the 0806 is now available

http://www.carcamerashop.co.uk/mini-0806.html

This is the camera I had been considering as my replacement for the front, should the need arise, but I have changed my mind for the SJCAM S5000 plus. It's about £5-£10 more but has 720p@120fps and 1080p@60fps and a specific mode to use as a dashcam. 1080p @60fps with a 170 Deg FOV is ideal and would in the registration capture of oncoming vehicles be vastly superior to any 30fps unit out there. Also it's a full on hardcore action cam as well. Spec for spec it's better however you do not have GPS option but do have wifi and can see it live on a smart phone or playback change settings etc.

They sold all the pre-orders bloody fast, that link is the place to go to keep an eye out for the availability for a genuine one.

So it's just the case of doing the same for the front camera, but with a longer wire to the 12V socket to plug into at the back of the car? Which other ignition live fuse can I use to piggyback?

Doesn't that produce fish eye images?

Doesn't that produce fish eye images?

Not to the extent of what I could class as goldfish bowl images no, but it depends what you want with regards to FOV (more is better IMO as long as its being captured to a high quality). Nothing on the scale or to the extent that the Blackvues do! Some footage starting to appear on youtube of them (but a lot of fake crap ones popping up too). Waiting patiently for techmoan to get his hands on one :D

I would use it as front camera in car and also use it on bike and for stupid little vids from time to time. The multi function aspect is quite appealing to me. In the event of a collision you could simply unclip it and get out of the car with the same footage uninterrupted and survey damage to dis-rule any question of the amount caused (especially at fault), would be a more seamless way to capture a complete incident without merely a video showing a collision and then some stills or video taken on a mobile which if used limits your ability to use it to summons assistance if required etc. Not miss a word or a thing, no admitting of liability on the scene then changing tune later BS. A lot of dashcams do have small batteries inside but not enough to record for long and the likes of the mobius which is an action camera too, if used as a dashcam and set up as such, will auto shut down once you disconnect it's power source at the pre determined time the user has set and if your not very fimiliar with the controls it's not the most obvious thing to operate in hand.

I'm guessing most of you here have dedicated dashcams - installing such a thing is prohibited by our company fleet policy, so I'm just asking if anybody has any recommendations for dashcam apps for the iphone 5 ? (free ones, for preference)

Witness is the best phone app.

Got mine yesterday and installed it tonight.

Even more subtle with a black rear view mirror.

I'm really impressed with mine :)

What firmware is on yours?

The date on mine is stuck at 2014

Well I would tell you. But the damn thing has failed. Power light comes on, nothing else.

Really liked the looks of the A118 and the tech moan review was good but with probably two thirds of my total driving being in darkness I think the night quality would let it down. I'm going to go for the v3 Mobius I think and get one ordered this weekend whilst they are on offer.

Hi Rob,

I was thinking of getting one of the camera's that you have fitted, so would be interested in how the aftersales side of this is going.

I know any item that you buy can fail, so I look for how well the manufacturer/selling agent deals with that. Is it progressing ok, or is the elephant a bit hard to push up that hill?

Many thanks in advance,

Phil.

They're being really helpful - there's the usual delay as it's an email/Ebay message exchange but they're suggested a few things to try. Now I'm waiting for an address to send the main unit back to for a replacement.

hopezone001 sent you a message about your request: dear customer, according to our experiences, there are some possible reason for this problem: 1)Memory card can not compatible with this device! So,please have a try to power on device without any memory card! If it can power on without any memory card,it seems that it is the problem of its memory card! 2)Or you can have a try formatting a FAT32 partition on the SD card by your computer firstly, not to format this sd card by this camera unit! Also, pls try with another memory card. and could you please power device on its car charger ? Anyway,do not worry about this return,we did offer this return within 2months,so you can return it within 2 months anytime! For your understanding,we really do not like this negative feedback or LOW DSR on this transaction. So pls believe we will try our best to solve it! Best regards, Vicky

So they're being very proactive for a China based Ebay seller. They have 27600 feedback, so that's a good sign.

Looks promising, and as you say it is a Chinese seller with all the language/translation barriers to complicate things.

Glad things are moving ahead for you Rob., keep us posted please.

Thanks

Phil.

Does anyone know if you can get a case for the blackvue dash cams?

Sent from my Galaxy S5

Well I've got my Roadhawk HD installed beside my rear view mirror and that's where it has been for the last few months and to say the least for the £200 I am seriously disappointed with it.

Whilst the daytime quality is good, the problem comes with dusk, twilight & night time. The picture is poor, especially in areas with minimal lighting, even in street lit areas its not good, you cannot read a number plate of a passing car at all.

The build quality of the unit is good, its just unfortunate that the electronics & software that drives it isn't any good. I most certainly cannot recommend that you buy one of these units, having seen some of the far better day & low light results from far cheaper units, I would recommend that you choose one of those & save at least £100 of your hard earned cash for a tank of fuel.

I seem to have an audio problem with my Blackvue DR600GW dash cam. It's gone all crackly

Maybe unrelated, but I had a similar problem when viewing the recordings from my DR380g-HD.

My laptop does not have an SD card slot.  Instead, I have to use an SD card adaptor.  I bought a cheap one from a major on-line warehouse, which I used twice before the sound became crackly.  I replaced it with a Kingston adaptor and have had no further problems.

I have tried it on my phone and tablet and it's the same. Sound was oki last week. But last few days is crackling
