How are you getting on with your A118 Rob?

I noticed that the last 1 min of each of my recordings was corrupted over the past few days. The battery has had it... I assume from over charging.

Normally the last segment is saved when it's shutdown, but as my battery is dead, almost as soon as I disconnected the power it shut off rather than shut down.

I'm running the A118C firmware at the minute as that shuts down much faster, so we'll see how we get on.

I got a result on the fake memory cards - raised a return with Ebay just to annoy the seller after they tried to blackmail me to change feedback in exchange for a partial refund. They asked for photos

  • Can you actually see where you are going?!?!?!

  • OK, so if you remember, I ordered a cheap 720p dashcam from China, I saw several reviews that praised its video clarity, even at night, and with GPS included for £31 I couldnt really go wrong. Sadly,

Hmm that's not good. Mine's working perfectly now :)

Hi,

To save starting a completely new thread when this is dedicated to in-car cameras, I thought I would post my question here.

I've just ordered a Blackvue DR650 to replace my DR400 in the front of my car. As this is already hardwired in, can I just use the power cable to power the DR650 or would I be advised to change everything once it's arrived??

Thanks,

John

If it's same connector I'd just keep it

That's what i'm thinking but thought i'd see what people suggest. Really need to get the rear one hardwired in as well when it comes.

Quite a nice job on the Fabia :)

Ebay about 5 years ago. Paid about a tenner... They're under a fiver now. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=141610977527&alt=web

A bit late in the day, but you can get much less intrusive ones too for the same price that don't stick out as far. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-Mini-ELM327-V2-1-OBD2-OBDII-Bluetooth-Adapter-Auto-Scanner-Torque-Android-/261340019288?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cd9143a58

Out of sight, easily accessible, easy to remove & does the job as intended.

I'm part-way through fitting a DR650 to my PFL Octavia Estate - I just need to run the wire to the rear camera, the front is up & running by itself.  I've bought it to replace a 400 as well, although that was in another car that was written-off, and the camera saved me my excess & shortened the claim considerably.  However, as it was a rear-end shunt, I bought the 650 to give me the rear view as well.  The power connector is the same so you could connect it up without changing anything other than the mount, but as mine was in a completely different car (rover 45, powered from the interior light) I've gone for the power magic pro & wired it up from the fusebox from scratch.  The video from the 650 is 100x better than the 400, although field of view is slightly narrower.

Yeah, fitted mine last weekend and pushed all the cable into the rubber/plastics around the edge of the headlining. Just need to use a clip or two to hold the cable up near the boot.

Where the cable plugs into the camera, it seems to hang down a little.

I routed my cable along the middle of the headlining, because the Scout has airbags along the upper side trim. Just popped the plastic trim at the back of the car off, removed the passenger side grab handle and visor, taped the cable to a piece of white trunking and fed it above the ling to the front, cables down the A-pillar (tie-wrapped to the existing loom) and into the dash for power. :) :)

No pokeing or stuffing of cables anywhere. ;)

Hi guys, I'm new to the dash camera game. I've been looking at the Blackvue dr650 and having it hardwired into the car. Does anyone here have one? and if so, where on the front windscreen have you installed it and how visible is it from the outside? Are you happy with it?

Also, is there anyone here not too far from the London area who knows how to install the damn thing and willing to help? I'm willing to pay of course!

I would do it myself, but I'm a DIY nightmare, most things I touch end up breaking!

I think it's safe to say that almost all of us that have dashcams have them mounted up where the interior mirror is.....gives a nice overview of what's going on "out front" ;) ;)

Break it.  Fix it.  Learn.  That's what I've been doing for the last 40-odd years.

I have a DR650 fitted - front camera only so far, the rear is in place but not wired yet.  I've got the kit with the Power Magic, there's room for the power magic to fit inside the fuse box area, and take the power feed from an unused permanently live fuse slot.  These vary, so trial and error is the best way.  On a RHD car, the camera just fits behind the mirror.  Unclip the RH a-pillar trim (remove the screw if you have an airbag), run the lead up here, wedge it between the roof trim and the screen until you get across to the camera, and plug it in.  Use an alcohol wipe (I used a glasses cleaner wipe) to clean the screen area before you fit it.  Take some time, research the different nooks and crannies available for wiring runs and so on, and you'll soon figure out where things can go.

Anyone try the Garmin 20 or the new 35???

I know I can rip the car apart to do double camera wiring, (can't be bothered at the moment though) but have heard bad things about DAB reception etc on certain (other) models & power packs etc................

or do I man up & get the Blackvue top dual channel thing?

I'm after a cheap second camera but don't know what to get. GPS is fine, don't really need WiFi. What's good at the moment?

define "cheap"  :p

Less than £100? I'd like the DR450 but can't justify it for a rear camera.

3rd gen 0806 can be got, with gps, for about £80.

There's also the 200 for £70 with a £5 voucher at Argos. No GPS but still 1080p and a 160 degree field of view instead of 130.

I've bought one for the GF's car so will also report back.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4816908.htm

If you do go for the 220 from Argos, you get a £10 voucher when you spend over £100 so it's worth buying something else at the same time.

Yes discovered that at the till. I wasn't that bothered but suppose I could have added a polybag even.

Damn it's hard to route cables in newish cars, Sometimes that tight fit and finish is a right PITA.

Camera in. Mazda is a bit awkward in that behind the mirror is a pretty large box with various cameras and sensors.

Interior trim is well fitted so quite tricky to get it routed.

Had to resort to a bit of black duct tape where it comes over the sill before going under the drivers mat.

Not a lot to spare cable wise. Was worried for a seconds that I wasn't going to be able to close the armrest where the 12v socket is but it went ok. This would probably all be a lot easier if it was wired in.

Setup easy enough. App went on my old Android tablet. You have to turn on the wifi on the camera then connect from the tablet/phone. Worked first time and updated the firmware without issue.

Live feed is a lower resolution which lets you get it setup but hard to tell how good it is at the moment.

Field of view is very wide indeed.

It'll get used in anger tomorrow.
