Climatronic buttons

Featured Replies

Might be a daft question but what is the middle buttons for on the climatronic dash? The outer ring makes the heater blow more/less but waht are the 2 blanks for? are they for something that was a factory option?

Thanks

the small black bit inbetween the 2 buttons is the temp sensor

I dont think they ever did have anything there button wise as even in the manual which shows a fully kitted model they are blanks.

In non climatronic its not a outer ring to adjust, the entire thing moves so i'd say its aesthetics more than anything

You can do a mod and make the middle ring upper button into a on/off which appears on the vw version...just gently remove the upper blank, tip of say a knife with something covering it the prevent scratches...then you will see a raised section (looking down from the top)...just gentley cut this off and replace the blank. You should feel it turn into a switch as it can now move. You now have an on/off switch with is really useful. Sure if do a search on climatronic on/off modification you will find better instructions :)

Yup, did this mod in the car park of the dealer, 5 minutes after I bought it from them brand new in 2008.... asked the workshop guys for a stanley blade and then had them staring in amazement as I explained it and did it in front of them! :giggle:

He he I do wonder who knows more sometimes...my dealer had no idea with retro-fitting my Columbus unit...I ended up telling what to do and watch out for lol

Would the lcd be in blue then Mike??, how about doing the FL controls?

But can you not just turn it off by turning the blower all the way to off? Or is this somthing else?

Yes you can, but it is a small hidden mod, that allows you to do it with the click of that single button.

fair enough, how easy is it to remove the button? That link doesnt give much detail of removing the button. I take its not a dash removal jobby!

Just try to lever the upper half out. You can do it with a screwdriver, but have to be very carefull not to damage the plastic.

Could also try it with an old bank card. As soon as it sticks out a bit, you can catch it with your nails.

Too slow, because I made a picture

oh, so i remove the blank from the out side of the dials to get access to the blank/button.

Just go into the space between turning knob (for the fan) and the blank. Or the horizontal chrom line and the knob.

The blank in the picture is already a couple of mm out.

Will try this tommorow! Thanks for the tip guys.

I found in a very old post on Briskoda that the lower centre button is used for the factory option of a parking heater (Scandinavia)

Yes, I've seen a picture of this somewhere....lower part definitely used for Auxiliary/Parking heater which is not an option in the UK.

Done mine. Niice. I might get a button if I can find one

Yeah it does. Ill keep an eye out for a button. Maybe they sell them separately

Pretty tasty at electronics & soldering, I'm wondering just how difficult it would be to get an LED working on that. Might have a look if there's space and daisy chain it to another of the LEDs in the unit. That'd make you jealous mike! ;)

Here is a view of the LED on the original VW unit I had taken mine out.

I think its do-able. And my company makes silver loaded epoxy so no solder! :) might just do it!
