VRS Tyres

Edinburgh Wheel Specialist. £300 for the 4. There are cheaper places but they were recommended by a body shop in Falkirk. Saw some wheels they had done and they looked good. They also paint the whole wheel, not just the front face.

Original SC2 on front did 29000 (mostly motorway) miles - now replaced with SC5

Original SC2 on rear still have about 5 mm after 32000 miles

Yup - as above

Exactly what I'm experiencing with the SC2's (although I got 30k on the front's before I replaced them - although I put new on the back and the other SC2's on the front).

And exactly why I then decided to plump for SC5's - when you get that kind of life and performance from a brand you like to stick to it.

Can I ask where your getting wheels refurbed and how much. I'm needing 4 done!

I have also just used the The Wheel Specialist (Manchester branch).

Not the cheapest, but really good quality - they take the tyres off, and strip the wheel back before re-painting. Dropped the car in at 8:00 and picked it up at 16:30.

Just to update you. Kwick fit who fitted my new tyres today goodyears eagle f1s said they are shocked at the rate of wear and earlier on that day they had a ford fiesta in which had done 6k and Michelin tyres were below min.

Anyways I emailed Michelin to get tyres Inspected.

They were fitted in June 6900miles ago. I have a good year on the rear that as fitted same time and that's only worn down by not even a mm yet think it was just over 7mm. So somthing I think is seriously wrong with the wear rate of tyres.

We have had a shocking bit of weather over the last 4 months and on top of that there's a giant pothole in every road you drive on :wonder:

Obviously other contributing factors such as off tracking and wrong tyre pressures will speed up the wear

I found Falken 452's horrific on my PD VRS , felt like i had no front grip , every time I booted it coming off roundabouts it under steered horribly

Usually went for Eagle F1's they are a great all round tyre

Have used Michelin Pilots of various sorts (Pilots, PS2's and PS3's) for the past 14 years (about 240,000 miles) with only 1 exception to tyres when I made the mistake of the false economy that is Goodyear F1!!

The Michelins on various cars - Ford Escort Gti and two Mondeos (Mk II Zetec 2.0 petrol and an ST TDCI) have returned in excess of 20,000 miles of wear pretty consistently. Sadly the Goodyears were not cheap enough to jusify the 13,000 miles I got from them when compared to what I was getting from the Michelins.....

Being a Costco member helps keep the cost down as about twice a year they do a 'buy 4 get 20% off' promotion.....admittedly, you gotta buy a full set, so there is a significant outlay....but it does almost boil down to buy 3 get the 4th free......almost!

The strange thing is whilst I was there a brand new focus came in with Michelin ps3 and all 4 needed replacing car had only done 6k and was brand new. I maybe Michelin have changed the compound. As there's a lot of threads popping up all around net about shocking wear on the ps3. Where as ps2 have excellent wear.

Interesting!!! Never saw that on my last set of PS3's........they're still on the Mondeo (my dad bought it off me!!). The fronts were replaced after about 14K miles and the ones that were on the back are still on it - now on the front! Truth be told I wasn;t exactly gentle on them, and the ST had been 'tuned' a little via bluefin, de-cat and JP S/S Exhaust - there was a K+N Panel filter in there too, but doubt that would do much compared to the other mods! Uprated tot eh front brakes to Focus ST calipers....so the car picked up and stopped quicker than stock....

Hmmm, guess I'll have to see how the PS3's go when they get put on the car later this year!!

Perhaps they'll discover some batch related issue!! I have Michelins on my bike too - came as stock tyres on my SV1000S, there was an issue noted with certain batch codes of the tyres causing uneven and quick wear at one point - only from one of the French factories, my tyres weren't affected.....guess we wait and see what transpires.....will try to remember to check ba kc on tyre threads after I put the PS3's on the car! To be honest the Contis on it are wearing a whole lot better than I expected (they came as OEM issue tryres on the Mondeo when I got it, got about the same mileage out of them as the Micehlins.......but on the Octy they don't seem to be wearing as fast!)

My factory fitted contis are nearly dead with 6K on them, always been the same on my last there VRs's

Ditto. Just replaced mine on Monday for Goodyear Assymetric 2's. My fronts were on the wear bar with 7k miles
