Disable electric opening of tailgate?

Featured Replies

Hi,

So I have got a 2 weeks old Superb Estate '2013 which I am going to hand over for Diamondbrite paint sealing conservation (500£ :/).

I have temporarily mounted a bicycle holder on the towbar but started to wonder, I guess I cannot disable the tailgate in any way so it is not accidentally opened while the bicycle holder is mounted?

Thanks.

Not 100% sure, but try looking in the manual to see if the electric tailgate has its own fuse. Then extracting that from the fuse box will give you a quick solution.

Electric tailgates I thought had the facility to adjust the opening so you do not hit garage/car park ceilings.

Never mind the tailgate problem, DON'T pay for the paint protection as there are better and cheaper ways to ensure a tiptop finish.

There are a few people on here that would do a better job and save you more than half that amount.

Even after paying their air fare to Sweden? ;)

Lol.

That's what happens when you're using the mobile version and can't see where people live.

The point still stands though as £500 is just too expensive!

Fuse 28 only supplies the electric tailgate, this is going to be your only way of isolating it.

Thanks, guess the fuse is to go then if I want to have bicycles mounted for a longer trip.

And yeah, 500£ is a bit steep. But at least it now it stays shiny for at least 6 years to come without me having to polish/wax it (which I lack knowledge of how to do anyhow)... In theory... :)

For the record, sealing with Ditec for my Saab 9-3 did cost me 450£, and that had to be renewed every 18 months for roughly 200£. Never came about to renew it though due to various reasons :bandit: ...

I thought the electric opening of the tailgate was disabled automatically when the car detected a trailer, or anything else connected to the electrics.

I have an electric tailgate and a bike rack and a trailer so I will try it when I get the chance. (only had my car for three weeks).

If you are talking a tailgate mounted rack as opposed to a towbar mounted rack....well I am not sure.

Ray.

Take a look at 260936731638 on Ebay-UK to give yourself an idea of what the people who are charging £500 will be using.

There's an awful lot of markup there! :whew:

Would 3 sponges be enough to do the superb?

I am curious, i have a Thule cycle holder mounted on my towbar. Also have a '13 Superb with an electric boot. Never had a problem in the last month with the boot accidentially opening...am I missing something?

I seem to recall that they do more than you'd think.

If all else fails then get 2 packs and only save £478!

Lol. What is the pre-treatment: wash and wax?

Average labour costs are £75+ per hour. Preparing takes quite a long time and from previous experience in the trade it takes at least 3.5 hours to apply to the body, + the interior. The cost also inclues a kit of Auytoglym products which is well over £100 worth of items.

Only apply Lifershine if you know exactly what you are doing and under the correct conditions.

Obtaining from the internet you will most likely get the old formula chemicals and you will not get the kit of Autoglym products.

I am not connected to Autoglym or any firm applying Lifeshine.
