Featured Replies

Yesterday, a BMW 335d out acelorated me away from a roundabout. What the hell is under the bonnet of those things? For a diesel the thing moved.

  • This thread is bucking the trend, you're supposed to tell us how did it and you're a hero or something.

  • As no-one else has said it I will - MKI Fabia 2.0 would've taken it like a king.

  • Thats more like it lol, although I find your story far more credible than a PD160 and a map

3.0l straight 6 turbo diesel.

286 bhp

428 lb/ft torque.

Not surprising really.

I think its the two turbos that make the difference :D

My neighbour has one of these and took me out for a spin in it recently - it is a truly awesome piece of kit. I would swap my vRS for it in a heartbeat.

Luckily, my finances won't stretch to it at the moment so the vRS is safe!

My old man has one, he bought the saloon so looks pretty much like any other bmw 3 series but goes like absolute fluff!

What car do you have btw? You need to be in a serious bit of kit to get anywhere near to it

From the autocar back pages data some time ago, I recall with some amusement pointing out to my Scooby impreza owning colleague that the 535d was quicker in every benchmark. The 335d must be bonkers.

They only come in auto as the manual couldn't handle the torque.

Awesome.

My old man has 59 plate 330 D and thats mad enough.

It does love a set of rear tyres quite often and he doesn't even drive it to half of its potential !!

what mpg does the 335d do and also new price?

The old mans 330D averages about 45 mpg, and was over 30K so god knows how much the 335 is.

Tyres ain't cheap either, Bridgestones R050A's just cost him £512 for two rears, and that was cheaper than last time at £604, BMW dealer wanted £400 each !!

Yeah they are abit quick. Barely managed to reel one in myself and I am unsure who was more surprised

Me that a normalish BMW was actually that quick

Or him because I guess he was used to blowing away most cars

Also unsure who at the end felt more like a ****

The young lad in his stripped out 220hp, diffed up to hell shopping cart

Or the middle aged guy who just "played" with a young lad in his stripped out 220hp diffed up to hell shopping cart.

In fairness, if I came across one now it would need to be remapped (and they then do 12 second 1/4 runs) to keep up.

I was waiting for a MK1 Fabia owner to step in here....

Used to work for BMW as a driver, driven several & aye.... Really quick with bags of torque. My mate had one, they are twin turbos, small turbo for low rpm, bigger turbo for high rpm. My mates was remapped & that was mento

G

We do all realise that anything with the words vRS on the back doesn't automatically make it quicker than anything else on the roads?

Unless it's mapped of course then it'll eat anything. Veyrons included.

The 335d is a weapon!! Especialy with the sport box. & once its tuned they are phenominal.

The next one to look out for on the roads is the 550d which will be fitted to the new 5 & X5's to start.

Triple charged, reinforced blocks for the head bolt inserts because the torque produced would otherwise rip the headbolts out of the block - 700Nm Torque approx as standard!!

jeez 5.0d triple charged....thats gonna be an animal!

Left hand drive only I believe :(

how it should be then

Like many cars of the ilk they can suffer from style and power over function and practicality.

Embarrassing when being overtaken by pedestrians.

Down to the usual, horses for courses.

No Traction no action.

EDIT, BMWs,

'Bugger my wheels spinning'

I'm sure that the first lunar shuttles will be petrol remapped powered.....

Despite the headline figures, its still a diesel. I'd much rather have the 335i, possibly even the 330i

The X5/X6 550d is right hand drive also
