Connects2 MP3 player adapter

Featured Replies

Hello.

After mucking about with an FM transmitter (which works OK, so long as I don't drive anywhere near another car, or to a different city) and a selection of CDs, I've decided one of these Connects2 box things is probably the way to go. I like music on when I'm driving, but having the same 80min mix looping for a 3hour journey recently almost drove me daft.

I've seen this at a reasonable price... I think it may be the correct one?

I have ipods to use in the car, are there any reasonably priced connection kits that will charge the player when connected? It's no biggie if not, I can always use a usb charging lead and the 3.5mm jack for sound.

If it is, how easy is it to get the symphony stereo out to access the connections on the rear? Does it require special tools? I've searched these forums, but only found "just pull it out" so far. It can't be that easy to remove? can it?

I thought of drilling a small hole in the top of the plastic shelf below the stereo to feed the cable out. Has anybody done it this way? I really don't fancy having it in the glovebox.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

you can get a connects 2 kit that does aux and ipod ( charges ipod and the radio buttons work with ipod 2 fast forward change song etc )

Thanks. Eighty notes is a bit steep for me though... that's getting into the territory of just sacking it off an buying a new stereo with an aux in connection (with the associated worry that light fingered sods will relieve me of it when parked up at events)

261173973282 eBay . That's what I've got works great..

Getting the symphony out... Used (blunted) jigsaw blades carefully to lever back the retainers, then wiggled it, levered it like mad to get it out.

Almost all of the plastics surrounding it prise off easily including the foglight and heated rear window buttons.

The oddments tray can be used to apply leverage too, as it's retained/trapped by the Symphony.

Last resort.... Or better for running wiring neatly is to remove the glovebox to get behind it. This also reduces the risk of breaking the fascia if frustration peaks!

The kit is very simple to fit- I found that the removal tools didn't work so had to use the jigsaw blade trick which was perfect.

I have fed the wire down the back so the aux connector is in the little cuppy hole in front of the gear leaver and ash tray. I use mine everyday without fail, best £30 I ever spent on the car!

Oh, this sounds like a perfect solution. How easy is it to get the cable down the back? I suppose I'll find out once the stuff I've ordered arrives

Just a little bit of a fiddle but not too hard, I've got big hands and managed ok. Looks good in that location and perfect for accessibility to change songs whilst driving etc.

Hope this helps

I just made a hole in back of the tray which you can't see and just sit in that easy for unplugging when I get out and because you can use headunit and ipod I sometimes swap folders which is easier than having it in glove box. Going to put a Velcro strip on ipod though because it flies out at peak torque. :)

Ps. Where has everyone earthed there's as when I have mine turned up high and I'm skipping song I get like a high pitched noise can't hear it when song starts just when it's silent ? I'm earthed on the screw on back of headunit could that be the problem?

Just so everyone knows, I bought one from the second site I linked to, which worked fine for about 10 miles, then it repeatedly started to disconnect from the headunit. I suppose the old adage of "buy cheap, buy twice' came into effect here, so I've ordered a connects2 unit. Hopefully this will work better.
