Chrome Trim on the Steering Wheel

I'll do my best.

When I look at the backside of the cover, I think I can see how it is going to be installed. It seems obvious. I think it will just snap into place very easily. However, it probably won't be that easy to uninstall the old cover from the wheel - but I am not doing it myself.

What do you think?

If there were no other chrome parts/trims in the cabin I wouldn't have installed this, but there are a lot of chrome parts actually, and I see this cover as the Icing on the Cake :-) . I like it a lot.

However, don't buy one just yet. Someone at the Dealer said, that there could be a safety problem. I don't believe that, and I think it was a casual comment, but I am digging into this.

This is my own quote from page 1, and I have now cleared it with the Dealer. The Overseer has had a talk with the mechanic who installed the cover, and he can now safely say, that there is no safety problem at all. The airbag itself has not been unfolded or anything like that. I am very pleased to hear that :) .

HAve you checked with your insurer as well? As this is a major safety feature they might have a problem with it being tweaked. Don't forget it was done by the dealer as it should alleviate any poential problems me thinks.

It looks good, much improvement on the standard one!

No, I am not going to check with my insurer because of a simple plastic casing, which this is. And it is genuine from Skoda.

Thanks :) .

Oh well, up to you. Me being Devli's Advocate can think of a situation when the bag doesn't go off (for whatever reason) in accident and you get injured and your insurers refuse payout on the basis that the item was not original factory unit or original replaced part but modified item. Or if it goes off and it injures you (plastic trim flies off right in your face) and they refuse payout due to the above. Perhaps Danish insurers are more sensible than the UK lot :D

Kent now you need 3 spoke steering wheel :)

I don't get it... Why? :)

I don't get it... Why? :)

Because it looks nicer than a 4 spoke (and some say more comfortable hand positions are available).

Personal preference thing really...

Ah okay. Well I am quite happy with my leather 4 spoke :) .

That's what really matters.

I would be to (but can't afford a new wheel and airbag & controller: I'm in a pre-FL)

Dont forget if you get one and glue if air bag goes off could kill you

Love this post !!

What I love the most about my Fabia is, that I can drive and keep going for hundreds of kilometers without getting tired (because of the car) or getting sore anywhere in my body :) . It's the first car I have had where I can say this. My old Fabia 1 was good, but not that good. I never found a perfect sitting position in that car, but it's easy in the one I have now, and the seats are very comfortably (to me anyhow) :) .

Looks good, dealer is talking rollocks if they say thats unsafe; the same airbag cover is fitted on hundreds of thousands of Octavias and Superbs! I really should not worry!

Thank you for your comment, but I think you missed this bit (post 33):

Yes - it's often the small things that make the big difference :) .

Anyone done this but me? :)

Not heard of anyone doing it (although I've thought about it).

Let's be honest, it's quite a bit of money to get a silver 'smile' on your steering wheel...

  • Author

I don't think it is that expensive, but that's just my opinion of course.
