Not been on here long but thought I'd post a project thread. First of all here's a few shots of my previous cars

Anyway back to the octy!!

Picked her up about two months ago after a 400 round trip from deep in the welsh valleys. Only plans I had were to give her a good clean and fit some wind deflectors. But after spending a few hours browsing this site I have now got a few more mods in mind.

I have recently wrapped my grille in matt black. ( when I say me I mean the better half ).

I have two stages of future plans. Stage one being a few choice mods that I will most probably do and stage 2 depending on funds etc...

Stage one mods
Interior silver dash strips and CD player facia wrapped in gloss black.
Coilovers/eibach pro springs with dampers
18" Neptune alloys
Shark Stage 1

Stage 2
Hybrid turbo
A bigger front mount
Columbus sat nav

Having so much fun with the car already. Going from a cooper s to the octy is such an upgrade. Granted its not as fast, yet. But it is such a fun car to drive. Very comfy and I can't fault it. So far.

Anyway here is a few photos of how she was when I first got her and after I did the grill.

Any c+c welcome.

Looks really good. Ad they standard wheels? Look very similar to team dynamic monzas :)

Love that colour! Not too keen on the rims but I see that will be addressed in "stage 1".

Yeah they are standard wheels. Not a very nice alloy at all. Standard VRS alloys are much nicer!!

One of these used to park on my road, lovely colour but as already said rims are just not suited!

Will look sweet on the zeniths!

In a few weeks I will be buying a set of coilovers then the wheels will b addressed next.

Cant wait for it to be sitting on coilovers and new wheels. Will completely transform the car in my opinion.

Car is booked in for painless dent repair next Wednesday. Then I am going to buy some cutting compounds and pads and give it a correction detail. Will be my first real full go at a correction normally just do enhancements but the swirls are too bad to ignore on this car. Then the wheels and stance will be done.

Plans sound great. What wheels are you planning to get?

  • 1 month later...

Things have taken a back seat as me and the other half have just bought a holiday to Turkey.

Wheels will probably be standard preFL alloys, with a subtle drop it will make a big difference but keep the practicality of it.

  • 5 months later...

A little bit of an update.

Timing belt and water pump done @ 59000

Two new toyo proxies

New skoda badges ordered for front and back

Then shortly after will come;

New vrs badges are next along with either gloss black or matte black sprayed front grill.

Does anyone know if plastidip is okay for grill as I would like to peel it off before I sell to go back to standard.

After all the above is done I will book it into prospered cardiff for a dpf back exhaust and then maybe if funds are available dpf delete.

Plastidip is fine for the front grill. Clean it, dry it, then 3 coats, leaving 20 minutes between coats and leaving to dry overnight. That's what I've done before anyway!

Thanks dan. I'm really bad at spraying and currently have no where to do it. So I'm gunna get it done by a body shop more than likely. Been quoted £60 by one company for normal spray paint, they never heard of plastidip...... The sales guy looked at me stupid.

Another little update, got my new badges fitted today. Front and back. Pics are from iphone so not the best.

I like the way the new badges look. But now I think I need to buy the new vrs badges front and rear. Grill is going to be booked in to be sprayed matte black as I ripped a little bit of the wrap taking the old badges off.

After Winter the ride height will be addressed :)

Springs or Coilovers? Did you go see P Tanner in Newport?

Springs or Coilovers? Did you go see P Tanner in Newport?

Not yet. Will be getting it done after Christmas now because of all the roads etc. Well I have just purchased my self a set of weitec coilovers. They will be fitted this side of Christmas more than likely but my wheels will not be going on. Need to purchase them first. I have finally (I think) settled on a set of wheels. 3sdm 0.01. But they are going to be a present for Christmas. So will have to wait for them. And I really want to wait till spring has landed as I do not want to ruin them with the salt etc.

Weitec collies   :o  They are the best coilovers to get. How low will you go with your new set of 3SDM? 18'S or 19's? Look forward to see your new mods :)

Post before and after pics once the coilovers are fitted.

I'm going for 18" and I ain't really sure how low yet. I drive through speed bumps on a daily basis so need to get over them, or go low and go long way around stuck in traffic... When the coils are fitted they will be wound all the way up so will only be about a 10mm drop if I got my measurements correct. (Coilovers drop 30-60mm on standard octy, vrs is 20mm lower than standard.) but I will get a picture and will do a review on comfort etc. Depending on when they get delivered they will be on in next few weeks. Hopefully be on this weekend.

This got delivered today so on the weekend I will be installing my new puddle lights :)

Just got an email saying my Coilovers have been des despatched. I am really excited now. My friend is going to fit these when he is off work over Christmas for me. Will have full use of his ramp at his garage then so will be easier than on the floor. Finally seems that the car is coming together now.

Looking forward to them pics :) A few members here selling BBS CH wheels, why not go for them? I'm going for springs, don't know which ones Eibach Pros or H&R both same price £172. Will they be fitted before or after xmas?

I'm not going for ch's as they seem to be pretty common and I was after something a little different.

Hopefully they will be on before xmas. Will upload before and afters for comparison too. Only difference between h&r and eibach is the drop. I was looking at h&r 55mm sprigs but I didn't know what ride would be like of my stock dampers so that's why I chose coils. Plus the practicality of adjusting the height to suit :)

A small update today. I recently boght a cheapo driving camera from amazon after seeing the budget dash cam thread. It actually works pretty well for a £15 Chinese camera. I am very please for the amount of money i paid for it. Today i thought I would hide all the wires out of the way for when i need to charge it whilst driving as the battery life is comical.

I fed the wire through the ash tray, then under the gove box (out of the way of the heaters), up the door seal and into the A piller. I then fed the wire into the headlining to where I wanted it. Was an easy job to do and took my all of 5 mins. As the camera charges from the fag lighter all I need to do is pop the ash tray open and plug it in when I need it.

Pics of the camera.. Excuse my dirty interior.

Next on the to do list;

Wire in puddle lights.  They are fitted just need to be wired now. May do this today.

Fit my coilovers - over xmas

A good detail - Eary spring

Order and fit new wheels - Spring.

Your coilvers arrived :) Why will you fit springs on wheels when you bought coilovers? Would like to meet up once the wheels are fitted, want to see it in the flesh.

Dash cam sounds interesting, can you send link?

Sorry meant to say they will go on in the spring. Not going to order them yet as they will just be sat in the shed and don't want them to be marked. Yeah will have to arrange a meet in the new year mate. Wouldn't mind coming along to a meet your way to meet more faces etc.

Link to dash cam.

It's a cheap Chinese unit but it does the job in the day. And when I get around to going for a spirited drive I will post the video to show the quality.
