Keechy's LE #298 - Including some Seat Porn, a few modifications and a set of 3SDM's

Featured Replies

Finally got my coilovers on today. Light was fading so only got one after shot. Forgot to take a before for comparison and have no side shots of the car. Will try and get a photo at a similar Angle that I have already done before to compare better.

So far they don't seem to stiff. There is a noticeable difference to standard but not as much as I thought there would be. In the spring When the weather decides to perk up a little I will start going on drives again so will report back with handling benefits then.

Anyway here's a quick iphone picture.

Funds are available for wheels too now but will wait until bad weather disappears to order them. Next on list is tax, MOT and rear pads.

Sitting pretty well, how low is the car now? Post up better pics on close up shot.

Not sure on the exact measurements. But I have 40mm left to go down on the coils on the front and the back I have no idea, I set the rear up to a random height and I liked it so kept the back where it was and adjusted the fronts lower to suit. If you want measure your cars wheel arch gap from tyre to wing and I will measure mine and compare.

Here's your thread.

Looking good keechy.

Thanks Bowen. It's coming along now. Wheels and a little more fettling with the stance and il be happy.

A quick comparison shot here, I still have about 40mm to drop on the coilovers but being winter I didnt want to go too low to begin with. When my new wheels aere fittef my friend said i can use his ramp to fettle with the height if i want to. Excuse my wheels too!!!

Ideally the front needs to come down about 10-20mm It may settle niceley as it is thou. Will have to wait and see.

That certainly looks way better than before, looks more aggressive. Maybe a wee bit lower when you fit new wheels, what colour are the wheels? Window tints will give it that stealth look, and paint your calipers in a different colour :)

I like the sutlle calipers atm so they will be staying for the time being anyway. I was thinking about tints last night so they may be on cards for future. Wheels are silver with a cut face. I will probably go another 10-20mm on front and 10-15 rear when the new shoes are on.

Looking forward to see pics with your new shoes. What's your suggestion for me? Bought AP coilovers from DaveyBoy, and provisionally bought Bentley rims 19's.  How low should I go? Bare in mind I park my car on the pavement, and passenegers do sit on the rear seats. How easy is it to adjust the coilovers?

It's easy to adjust the coilovers if you have a ramp. You can adjust without taking wheels off but to go really low you will probably need to take them off. I park on a curb now and again and have had no problems with that. I do however have a little scrubbing noise when going over speed bumps now and again. But I will have to avoid them like the plague from now on. Only had one person sit in the back since they have been on and had no trouble, but the arches are pretty big on these buses so can't see you having and trouble to be honest. I think the AP coilovers are the same as the weitec but a better quality, so will probably be the same damper settings as the weitecs.

I had bad experience with budget coilovers on my previous car, so that's why I was a little worried. Coilovers I bought is from Daveyboy. Want to go low, but not too low so I can't take it for a spin, or going fast on the motorway with 19's on.

Not long till I'm back in UK, so mods will be done this month hopefully. When is the Welsh meeting being held? I was hoping to meet up on 1st week of Feb? I can have sometime to fit coilovers, buy a set of tyres, paint the calipers and fit the wheels lol.

Yeah Welsh meet is on the 2nd Feb now. I want have my new wheels on as I haven't ordered them yet. Will be done middle of February probably. When are you back in the UK now? Interested to see your wheels.

Had a monster of a screw in my front passenger tire last night. So off came the 18" wheel and on with the spare. Wheel was taken by a friend to work so he could see if it can be repaired. Tire has only covered 2000 Miles so I wasn't too happy about it.

Great timing too as the heavens had just opened when the puncture happened.

Look forward to seeing you, and the guys. Ouch! How did that massive screw went in your tyre?

I'm back in U.K Sunday nite, hopefully should be gathering and collecting all the parts next week, then fitted on weekend.

Loving the steelies lol :)

Alloy was put back on two days after the puncture. So is back to normal now. I also fitted some MTEC sidelights and Orsam Nightbreaker Unlimited headlights this week.  Really need to get my grill sorted now as its starting to look a bit shabby now. I am going to get it plastidipped but there isn't realy any point doing them at the moment with all the grit on the roads and the forecast doesn't look to good.

I am now looking for wheels. I'm still tempted by 3SDM but also looking at other options. Any one ever seen 18" Speedline Turinis on an Octavia before? I think it may look pretty good.

Only thing holding me back from the 3SDM 0.01's really is the weight. I cant seem to find a weight for them anywhere. I like driving my car through the twisties so would not want to compromise the handling or the feeling of the car by sticking some heavy wheels on.

Also forgot to mention I have fitted an EGR reducer gasket. (Part from Seat dealer 028131547B) I think its off a seat leon FR.It has a slightly smaller hole than the original. Cant say I have noticed much difference. Had it fitted since the week I had the car so this may be the reason why.  If anyone is interested in it do a quick search on the 'bay and it will come up and is relatively cheap.

My EGR is playing up, so bought a replacement one. Any updates on wheels yet?

No update on wheels yet. I'm still on the look out. Not sure if I should go for a second hand set of bbs or new 3SDM 0.01's

Go for 0.01s, they look much nicer. Plus, I want a set on my LE, if you get them, mm I'll known how they look haha

I am seriously considering them again now. May go for the staggered look 8.5j front and 9.5j rear. Need to do a little more research on tyre sizes and offset with the staggered as I haven't really considered the staggered look yet. I really want to order them today but, I know they will be sat in the shed waiting for the weather to improve so head over heart this time.

Can't wait to see it! As it happens (and I'm not a copycat, honest!), you've beat me to all the visual mods I'm after; black grille, lowered, wind deflectors and the alloys. Only thing extra is I'd be after some black tintage.

I wanted 9.5x18 rota grids and that et was 38. I would have run 225/40's which would have given a little tyre stretch. I think you'll be looking at 235 rears and 225 fronts just make sure th et is ok

I was going to run 225 rear and front. Not really into the whole stretch scene, so hopefully the tyres want be stretched at that size. But again like I said. Head of Heart on this one and until I  am 100% happy that the wheels will fit and will not look silly then I will be purchasing them.

Its not problem. I'm glad to see another LE that will be modded on the Forum. They are very few that I have actually seen modded.
