Top boost pipe replacement DIY :)

Featured Replies

has anyone had any problem with the coupler ?, to me it could do with a bit more room for the jubilee clip ?, i think part of the problem is the really bad quality hose i've bought, really soft stuff

I've only had the pipe pop off the coupler once but i agree that it could do with being a bit bigger to allow more clips to be used. It was recommended to me to use self-tappers through the hose and metal pipe to try and keep everything together better but i haven't gotten round to trying that out yet.

  • I think it would be important to have a ribbed end on the metal pipe to prevent the silicone slipping off. failing this use a glue or sealant?

  • Yes thats exactly it as I have an egr delete so didn't need the type 'b' coupler, think the 90º bend was 51-57mm? Will have to double check.

Installed!! Slight issues with pipe blowing out but used two clips and hairspray as previously mentioned and its excellent

Have you noticed any differances at all?

Ideally need to use a pipe with beading on the end and miklor clamps especially if you have a remap.

Yeah definatly joe mate agree with the beading I've made a couple of cuts in the end of my stainless pipe and bent to little ends up just so the jubilees have something to nip up too

Mikalors are probably the best thing to use also

my mate made a swage tool to swage the pipes, works A treat plus I used mikalor clamps best way to do it. Buy cheap buy twice lol

Tryed to keep cutting to a minimum, cut the 45 degree hose more at the bottom than the top as wanted to keep a fair bit up top end for clips as havent got the mikler ones

Also gives me more to fine tune the finish of it =], if needs be

where are people now sourcing the 70deg pipe? im sure when I originally did mine I used a 45deg alloy pipe :s but my friend has a boost leak and then I saw this

I used a 45deg pipe from ash luke.

I was thinking a 45 deg would fit. I know i used a 45deg on my fmic as per the list you sent me before.

The 45 gonna sit okay with standard smic you reckon?

Couldn't say to be honest didnt think of it going to a side mount :s

When i get my car back i'll have a trial fit with my 45deg i think

Roughly what was people paying for there couplers?

I paid about £17.99 for the coupler into the intercooler.

Yeah that's the price of the one I found on ebay.

Cheers
