Looks good, I'm looking for roof bars for my white octavia, and am restricted by availability, but unsure whether black or silver, or flush / push through! Ideally flush black on a white car with a black pack, but £300 for bars is a bit much...

Yeah, new prices are pretty steep, but if you're patient you can find a deal. I paid £100 for the 127 through bars (can fit a box, and a couple of bikes too if you want). If you're extra lucky, you can find a kit with the Skoda Feet (which have two 'pips' for mounting onto the car - extra secure fitting!). However, defo go for the new evo bars if you can - as you won't need to cut any rubber - the strips are about £20 each! And a 3Nm torque wrench from Thule is about £20! (I ended up buying a mini wrench set instead, as I can use it for other jobs too). Going camping this weekend. so will get to test out the new kit!

I ordered the thule evo flush bars, in black. I just need to find a nice sleek slim gloss black box now!

@Achrys what's your opinion of the Kamei roofbox? It's reasonably priced and in stock at the roof box co. Is it possible to fit it offset on the bars, i.e. the box mountings have some lateral adjustment?

Edited by stever750

Hey Steve, I agonised for ages in selecting a box. They’re all pretty good on that site, but all have pros and cons. Sliding laterally is easy - the Kamei comes with t-bar bolts/adapters which work perfectly/cleanly with aluminium bars. And if you have the evo bars - you just ‘slide the box’ to the desired position (before tightening the wing it’s) without cutting rubber strips. Inside the box, the T-bar screws come through the adapters which can slide forwards and backwards - which means you can set it as far back as possible without hitting the open boot door. Very easy to set up. The only downside I can see so far, is that it opens just on one side, so you’ll have to stand on the door sills to load it up (I’m 6’3” too). However, not such a bad thing if you know how and what you’re loading in.
We’re leaving on Sunday morning, but I’ll take a couple of pics for you if you haven’t already bought it. Overall it gets really good reviews for the money, and the locking system is pretty much foolproof and very secure. It has gas struts too which is nice. I bought the cover too, but it’s pretty lightweight - and doesn’t encase the whole box (think of fitted bed sheets with elasticated corners!) hope that helps!

Thanks, really useful info. I ended up measuring the available space on my bars with the bike carrier fitted, and I only have 65cm available to fit a box. That means the Delph on won't fit which is really disappointing, as roof box company gave me a good discount.

The Husky would fit, but it's not in stock, so the only sensibly priced option is the Halfords advance 330l box which is 60mm wide. I found a slightly used one on ebay incl postage which saved me £120 over a new one, so went for that in the end. Had to buy some T track adapters, but the thule ones fit, as the halfords b8xis made by them.

Hi all.

Heres my 2018 octy vrs 245 in meteor grey.

Had it 6/7 weeks now, been back into skoda twice already, one with an intake problem that turned out to be a vac line had come off (which happened on my drive home!)and earlier this week to have the waterpump/housing replaced 🙈

Hopefully that's the last of the problems for a while.

Hi all - I’m all the way down in New Zealand.
I picked up my first Skoda a few days ago. A Mk.III Octavia vRS.

It’s been kept standard by the previous owner so it’s a bit of a blank canvas. I’ve got a few small plans like rear diffuser and maybe a change of front grill etc. and a few longer terms plans like lowering.

This is the first car I’ve actually owned for about 15 years having had the luxury of company cars all that time.

The last car I owned was a GSR Lancer turbo which was a heap of fun - 4 days into owning this vRS and so far it’s promising to be even better.

Anyway, love seeing what y’all have done with your own cars, so any advice on the best places for aftermarket parts would be great.

Last summer I've bought my first Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI

Hi all, might be a bit late to the party, but I have now had this 2015 Octavia RS for about 6 months. I bought it as it had left the factory, as in now mods to speak of. Since owning it, that has changed a bit :)

So far the mod list is as follows.

APR Carbon Fiber Intake.

Cheapie Aliexpress Carbon Fiber front lip.

Custom Exhaust system.

MCA Pro Sport adjustable suspension.

I am just about to fit an under seat sub, the Canton sound system is good, but lacks any significant bass, so hoping this will just fill in the gaps. Ill be putting up a post elsewhere asking for some wiring help on that.

Still need to tint the windows properly, fit a Maxton rear diffuser and still deciding if I like the 20 inch Extreme wheels, so may or may not fit something else eventually.

Nice colour. Please let us know how the under seat sub sounds as I am considering the same. Thanks

New to the site, so i'm just saying hello.

Just got a VRS 245 in moon white with black pack, totally stock, its on pcp so I won't be modding it, except for a sump guard from sump-guard.co.uk to ensure that the second pic doesn't happen again!

I really can't understand the logic of a plastic sump!!

Hey aug1984,

Cheers, we like it - and it's hard to get more for your money with these cars!

With regards to the retrofit, I literally took a bread knife to the existing foam after offering up the spare I bought (just make sure its either the same size, or has the same rolling circumference). Check out your depth when choosing a spare to purchase, as a full-size can be a bit tight (caliper space issues on the VRS), but standard ones may fit nicely. There is a foam inlay you can buy, but whats the point, just turn your existing one into what you need - do it neatly, and you'll never look back. I came to that decision, when looking at new inlays etc, and realising, that as long as the spare is in there, I'm hoping never to see/use it at all! lol

Also it's nice to get a space with a foam tool tray in it too - it helps support the floor panel above it.

All I'd say, is when cutting, cut little bits more often... like the old saying measure twice, cut once ;)

Good luck!

Really?? Custom made?! Wow! 🤯 it looks like new, great job!

I will take a look on it. Thanks for replying.

I had a mk2 vrs until Sept this year and part ex'd it for a Jag XFS, biggest mistake i've ever made in over 40 years of driving.

The Jag was nice to drive, comfortable and smooth but it did'nt make me smile like a vrs does.

We had a couple of inches of snow in late November and the Jag handled like a 3 legged donkey, it was all over the place, that was it, it had to go and there was only one car that would replace it, a mk3 vrs,

RIP one of the nicest cars I've owned, and planned to buy it outright at the end of the finance agreement. Luckily the three of us in the car were OK, just mild bruising; so the car did it's job: looked after us all. Just remember folks to stay safe, and the Octy is a relatively good place for that!

The main thing is that you are all ok, the car can be replaced.

Ouch stever750.

I'm new to the Skoda gang, partially paid for it today. Dealing with getting money from an Australian bank account into an English one for the rest of the payment :(

Attached shot is from the dealer. He had a couple of VRS' in stock which is why I went there in the first place. As a fussy buyer I wasn't 100% happy, however I ended up with a mint 1.5 TSI with v. low miles on the clock. I am stoked.

I still have the MK2 2.0FSi estate 07 plates, however with after 11 years of driving it and 275000 miles on clock is time for a fresh one.

The  MK3 1.6TDi SEL become a new  family member in time for xmass :) .  The black onyx interior and 40k on clock feels good.
