Just ordered my 3rd Skoda Octavia and I've never owned one! I cancelled two previous orders after 4 months for the Mk1 and 6 months on the Mk2. After the first one where I lost my deposit I always add to the contract delivery by XXXX(date) is a strict term of the contract. This allows you to get your money back.

Anyway ordered from All Electric in Birmingham on 10/9/13 with a provisional build week of 02/14 a Meteor Grey VRS diesel hatch. With black design and winter pack, crew protection, sunset glass and simply clever on the standard anthracite alloys.

Assuming it takes 2 weeks for delivery to the UK from build that will be a 19 week delivery time....not great. I'll update when build date is confirmed.

Don't hold your breath on the delivery. My car was built in week 33 & took 3 weeks to make it to Emden exit port. It is now at dealers & available to collect & we are now week 38. Some seem to get through quicker but many take the full 3/4 weeks (or more).

Yeah think it depends on numbers of cars going to the right ports as to whether yours gets on or not. Be great if the dealers actually kept you informed so you wouldn't have to guess how much more petrol to put in your part exchange car !!!!

Totally agree but dealers only get same info as us when we ring Skoda UK. Just put another £10 in my tank which should keep me going before I collect new car Monday.

On our local news today - the new Grimsby riverside terminal opens today. It can deal with 2 vessels at once & can handle car carriers each with capacity of 3000 cars so if they pile up at Emden until they can fill larger ships might make the waiting worse.

At least yours will be going to Immingham, it hardly seems to have any highway ships going to sheerness where guess mine will come from !

Yeah!I'm the same as redandwhitepauly regarding petrol, mine is at the dealers ready to go,PDI'd etc, just waiting for Swansea to get off their backsides and send the damn V5.over !!!

I know, I begrudge leaving petrol in it when you are very lucky these days if you get your nice new car with a tankful of petrol courtesy of the dealers (I will still be asking anyway), but the communication is so poor you almost have to crowbar anything out of them !!

They wouldn't make very good ebayers !!

As a quick 'heads up' on anyone waiting on there car for a plate change (vehicle to vehicle) expect some extra delays. All local DVLA offices are no longer handling the paperwork and it goes direct to Swansea. The local offices used to do all of the relevant checks and bits and pieces and Swansea would just send out the new paperwork/tax discs etc (10 days usually). Now that Swansea are handling EVERYTHING it is taking longer.

I think they have upped their game a bit but just had one plate change through and it took nearly a month!! :wall: For those whose cars are sitting ready to go, I'd suggest to take it on a normal plate and just wait until the plate transfer goes through.

It does make me wonder in today's information obsessed world why Skoda don't link thier build application to an Email/SMS server and send out regular updates. Not much development costs but massive kudos for them.

Oh no, what did you do, petrol blue is nice. But it's no race blue

Yes it's the wrong colour but I've got it and its SO lovely to drive. Just gorgeous!! Over the moon. Those waiting....hang in there guys. So worth the wait!!!

Ryan - read my past posts, that'll tell you what happened. After all that, at least I've got a new Octavia to drive. No one can persuade me I've chosen the wrong car, its just fantastic!!

That's good to hear, glad it worked out for you in the end :¬)

With all these delays, no wonder I rarely see any fellow Octy III's on the road, glad I got in early with a launch weekend order and a 10 week wait but rest assured all the waiting is worth it, despite some of the problems which have been reported on various threads, the car is a nice place to spend time. Done over 6k now and the motor is starting to loosen up nicely, and I'm still in love with the colour :-)

I saw a black VRS Estate in Solihull yesterday, looked very sexy.

Still not seen many MkIII's of any spec on my regular commute around South Yorks or North Notts, seen a few on my travels including a race blue elegance on M42 near Solihull the other week when I was heading back from Longbridge but don't think he was a Briskodian!

Skoda called yesterday to say that mine is still on the dock are Emden but should be on the boat the Sheerness in 5 days.

Fingers crossed!!

Bugger I bet mine is the same then. My Yeti is nearly at MOT time and I do not want to have to go through that before I get the Octy !!

I ordered an Octavia rallye green VRS (Hatch) on the 13th August 2013 at Lookers Stockport.  Provisionally given build week 46.  Spoke to SUK and advised this has moved to week 48 but not confirmed.  Cust Services stated from Week 45 onwards - VRS Hatch demonstrators being built.  Not sure when I will see this.  However asked whether I would consider an estate?  To which I replied thanks but no thanks. Your car should be with you in early to late January she replied.  if its confirmed I'm going to cancel.  Not impressed SKODA Not impressed!!

Think it is a scandal of SKODA being unable to build cars at the right pace as the orders come in! This will cost the Skoda money because many will pull out!

Demand is out stripping supply that's all, it's a measure of how good the Octavia really is that production requirements have been underestimated.

Skoda have two options...

1. Increase production by lowering quality control and speeding up production rates. (Not what we want)

2. Increase production capacity by building more production space and employing/training more staff.

The latter takes time and until they ramp up production there will be a waiting list.

Its also a problem of so many optional extras that grouping cars of a similar spec to build is a nightmare.

Hi Andy,  I totally agree with your comments.  However lets not forget the new Octavia was launched on the 11th July 2013.  SKODA must have realized there was going to be a demand - lets at least have supply contingency.  The demonstrators should have been ordered and built for the showrooms prior or as near to launch day as possible.  It makes no sense to start this after launch.  Orders will back up customers will get frustrated and ultimately leave.  They've made a monumental mistake by doing this and the boardroom at SKODA need a good kick up the arse.

Lets say I get my new motor on the 13th January 2014 - Thats 6 months post launch.

Are the competition better or worse?  Ill take a punt on better!!  Its simply not good enough,

Rant over,

Paul

Drew do you know the name of the boat?

I'm not so sure they've under estimated the demand all that much. 3 - 4 months delivery time is probably close to what they want from a new car!

in a year or 2 some other manufacturer will have a decently priced competing product and the "new" factor will have worn off, so they will be down to producing to stock again.
If they expanded the manufacturing capacity now, they would have too much capacity in 1 or 2 years. I'm fairly sure they would rather sell a few less cars then have that happen.

That said, I don't understand why vRS hatches can't be produced yet. AND having drawn the short end of the stick myself I don't quite understand why cars can't just be built in the order they are sold! I'm STILL waiting for a production date, while others have ordered after me and already got their cars! Mine isn't a vRS and it doesnt have ACC or sunroof or any of the other known issues :(

Matt I have seen a silver hatch on the M27 J8, a red estate on the M18/M1 junction and a black Danish combi at Le Mans. So quite rare.

Delays could also be down to Skoda releasing too many new models so close together, the new Rapid Spaceback has started production at the same plant where the Octavia is made. Extract below for Skoda.co.uk/news we don't seem to be seeing the benefits yet of the plant improvements...

"In order to accommodate the Rapid Spaceback, ŠKODA has adapted its operations and expanded facilities at the Mladá Boleslav plant. The car is produced alongside the current Fabia model on one production line. The Spaceback’s sibling, the ŠKODA Rapid, is also assembled on site, plus the all-new third-generation Octavia Hatch and Estate models.

Upgrades to accommodate this year’s new models have included new equipment for car body production, a fully-automated paint shop and a new ultra-modern press line. Since April, a new logistics warehouse has been in operation, ensuring the supply of parts to vehicle, and powertrain production is faster, more flexible and more efficient than ever before."
