There is a version letter needed. But from the part number, I don't think yours is an A revision which is the file I have sorry.

This is a photo of the unit if that helps

  • There is already a thread about these maps on this forum and there is still some doubt as to whether those maps will work on anything before the latest 2013 MkIII Columbus. It would be great if they

Yours is pre-'A' revision c.2009 I think.

However something's makes me think it will take an 'A' revision firmware, but I can't find where I read it so I'd hold off until it can be confirmed.

Thanks for the info about the 'A' revision KB, hopefully someone has the answer. I guess 45mins is far to long for it to remain running.

Mine is a 3T0...A & is on 4xxx firmware quite happily.

If I find the info again I'll post a link.

Its newer than mine which is an A revision and looking at post 6 here would suggest its a B revision.

The firmware is 1104 which is pretty old though.

To be honest it all just blows my mind. If someone could sort it that would be amazing. Just need to confirm the firmware. Could I run v8 maps on it or does the update need doing first?

Edited by benjamino

Yes I felt like that at first too.

The update will wipe the maps and music so update first. I am pretty sure you have a B revision. If the setup menu trick works, the radio HW will be shown. If its 0004 its definitely a B.

If the trick doesn't work, a vcds scan will give the same info.

On the picture posted earlier it shows HW: H11 and SW: 1104. Is this what you're talking about?

Advice please as I'm unsure. I've been offered firmware 2724, but not knowing what firmware I currently have installed is it just a simple case of uploading it to the unit or do I require an earlier update first?

There are all sorts of numbers involved. 1104 is the current firmware which you will need to upgrade as it is well out of date. Not quite sure about H11 but its not the radio number I was referring to. With any luck it will be on the test menu after a long (30 sec) hold of the setup button.

Right here goes. My local mechanic has a Snap-On code reader so we plugged it in and got the following data about my Columbus:

ECU Identification. 3T0035680

Sofware version number. 0904

ECU Hardware number. 3T0035680

ECU Type. NAVIGATION_SYSTEM

Protocol ID. 0x5100

Protocol. E_VAG_CAN

Can anyone tell from the above data what revision my Columbus is? Would I be right in saying that the Software version no. 0904 is the firmware currently installed?

That can't be right!

0904 can't be the firmware as the factory fitted sticker said it was 1104...

I've just tried pressing the setup button for 30+ seconds and all it does is bring up the 'Radio service mode' and no "hidden" menu. See attached pic.

Is 0904 a valid code, or have I got it all wrong. Guess it's 1104 then until I plug it into a VCDS and get a different answer.

Would this canbus gateway work and solve the non stop fan issue once reprogrammed? It's second hand obviously.

While you've got it plugged in, get the hidden menu activated. It's called the 'service' menu IIRC.

Should do.

Good idea, I'll have to go back tomorrow and ask nicely, good thing he doesn't charge for diagnostic!

Any idea where the gateway might be located on my 2008 Octavia. I believe it could be either behind the glovebox or somewhere under the drivers side console.

It'll be above tbe driver's right foot.

It moved there from early 2007 (approx).

Easiest way in is to remove the wiper arms and linkage and scuttle panel then you'll find a black rubber cover on the right. Remove this and its under there.

Others will argue going at it from inside the vehicle is easier, but I've got big hands!

There's a photo tutorial on the net for a Golf which is basically the same. Ice linked to it in a thread on here before.

Being a 2008 you shouldn't need to upgrade the gateway to avoid battery drain though.

OH, All I want to do is find the version number for now. Think it'll be easier to look for it on the inside............ I hope!

I saw the photo tutorial with the Golf, and it looks a real faf for something that should be so simple.

I'm hoping not to change the gateway, just want to make 100% sure either way, rather than leaving it and risk the battery going flat, especially as we're off on holiday in 3 weeks.

It sounds like a lot of faff, but it is quite easy even for a non-tech like me!

VCDS scan is the way forward.
