Anyone know good mechanic/garage in Cambridge area?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Trying to find an independent garage outfit to look at this issue

Does anyone know any good dealers/techies/garages in the Cambridge area?

Many thanks

Adrian

A.D.Suttin in March is excellent. VAG trained and full of knowledge!

Many thanks Oli. Unfortunately March is some 35 miles north of Cambridge. Would really appreciate a garage more locally, if possible!

But thanks for the sugg. Will keep in reserve.

Cheers

Sorry - I read that as Cambridgeshire!

Hope you find somewhere.

Fair enough, Oli. I hadn't realised how big Cambridgeshire is! Ideally, as close to the town of Cambridge as poss...

Thanks again for your sugg. Will keep Suttins in mind in case there are no other suggs.

Cheers

Is Royston too far? Daverapid of this part works there.

Thanks for these two additions. Helpful. Skodanorman, what is the Royston garage called, please? Thanks vrsTom for the link.

Royston MOT Centre. Ask for Dave and say skodanorman sent you.

Hi there,

Thought I'd supply an update. Amazingly, the 'Dead Dials' Octavia 2.0 Estate passed its MOT at a local Cambridge garage. They miraculously flickered into life during MOT testing last week. Truly amazing.

However we are still struggling to find a garage to try the soldering repairs for the Octavia's Dead Dials. I'm afraid A.G. Suttins, see Oli3000's suggestion above, sends the whole dials cluster away to a third party and wasn't interested in any soldering solution themselves. The Royston MOT Centre suggested by SkodaNorman sent us away to a third party in Saffron Walden who, again, was unable to help.

So, if anyone knows a mechanic handy with a solder in the Cambridgeshire area and is prepared to take on the Dead Dials job for my Cambridge friend, we'd love to hear from you!

Best wishes,

Adrian

Why not replace the dials?

I know very little about how to to this practically. But the conventional wisdom so far from all the garages we've spoken to is that the dials have to be pulled out and sent away to a specialist company. No tinkering around with some soldering within the steering column, unfortunately. It just seems a rather heavy-handed approach to what - hopefully! - is a very simple problem.

Again, I'm not a 'tech' or a mechanic, so I may well be WRONG.

Thanks Norman.

You need to remember that the circuit boards in the dials are manufactured by specialist robots busing surface mount technology so it is simply not possible to repair this at home.
