Spoiler? Yes or No?

Featured Replies

The "16v" and "turbo" chrome badges are on their way!!! ;-) lol

Ta! I'd better inform my insurance company now...

I think the black works well, if only because it's less obstrusive.  (Can you tell that I'm not rushing to put one on my Yeti?!)

Add me to the list of people who would be interested to know whether it makes any difference to the amount of cr@p that ends up on the tailgate.  (If it did, that might sway my opinion.)

A cleaner rear window was another reason to give this a go.

It's designed to be bonded on with the likes of tiger seal or sikaflex. If I do go ahead and fit it I might try it with trim tape. That way if it doesn't work out it can be removed easily enough. A lot of the BMW guys are bonding their lip spoilers with trim tape.

If you go ahead I'd use double sided auto tape. Be warned that polyurethane adhesives like Tigerseal won't work on the trim unless a clear polyolefin primer is used on the plastic. A better bet are MS Polymer adhesives like Speedbond or the one from Kent (if you can get it) that Llanigraham recommends.

Personally....a big fat 'no'.....but if you want to go down that route I'm fine with it. Each to their own as they say.

I don't mind the spoiler - better to be black than orange or blue!!  :p  If you wanted it white, would it be better to fit it, then spray the whole area/panel (or have it sprayed professionally?) so it matches the surrounding paint? Dunno, I'm no expert, believe me, as I may just have proved!

Love the footprint badge. I want one and will get one for my Yeti.... as soon as I've saved up enough to get one (a Yeti, that is!)

It looks fine to me,  I got hold of a spoiler for my wife's Yaris.  I had it professionally sprayed to get the best results.

I think I will have a go wrapping the spoiler in gloss black vinyl to match the rest of the black pieces. Will be able to use the off cuts to wrap the chrome grill too :)

Oh and thanks one and all for your views. Will keep folks updated as to the effect the spoiler has on the rear screen.

As people said a spoiler is personal taste.  But you are ignoring one of the Yeti's most distinctive styling elements here if you are even considering keeping the spoiler black. That is a HUGE no-no in my book. Look at the design of the rear glass from the shark fin B-pillar back AND AROUND. It neatly goes all the way around from B-pillar to B-pillar with the C and D-pillars being gloss black. Adding a black spoiler above this "aircraft canopy" (be that in matt or gloss black) totally ruins this homogeneous effect of the glass...

So keep the spoiler but definitely paint it body colour.
