Climatronic

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Am I stupid or is there something wrong with the Climatronic? I can't set the fanspeed to 2 (bars). If I have the temp set to 20 deg. and switch off the auto by e.g. pressing one of the buttons for directing the air. Then I can set the fan speed in all positions but I never see 2 bars light up. That is, first click and I see 1 bar, second click I see NO bars, third click and now I see 3 bars and for higher I see all.

Another thing is, that if I set the fan speed to the max number of bars, and then turn one more click to the right, then all bars disappear but the fan is still at max... I see no logic in the way this thing operates!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

There's something wrong with it.

My bars light up one at a time as I ask for more air manually and once at max they do not dissapear if i move the dial any further.

Mine does the same as yours, I was playing around with it on the way to work so haven't had a good chance to test it properly.

1st click - 1 bar On

2nd click - No bars but Auto On

3rd click - 3 bars On, Auto off

4th click - 4 bars On

I then changed the Auto A/C profile from 'Medium' to 'Light' and got a different series of bars On/Auto On to the above, so changed the profile to 'Strong' and got a different series again.  Like I said I haven't had time to test it but I'm thinking it may be working as it's supposed to, I'll need to check the manual.

Mine does it too.

Mine does it too.

But not all do... I went to the dealer today and he said that he had three other complaints. He even tried to change the panel on one but without any effect. He will call me when he get an explanation from Skoda HQ. I think it is some kind of software bug. Not critical but still a bit annoying.

Tried mine again and found the following:

1st led ok, 2nd led goes out and auto comes on - this must be where the auto setting has the fan speed.

from 3rd to remaining led's all work one at a time.

They don't go out if you keep going when they're all on.

Have a look at page 107 of the downloadable owners manual & it says about using the infotainment system.

I think this is the way it should work. If you set fan speed to whatever Auto would have used, Auto is activated and therefor fan speed is not displayed.

I guess you could be right. But I do not find it particularly logical. I would prefer, that if I chose manual, then the system would act as if it did not even have the automatic option. That is my interpretation of the word manual  Any way, I will wait and see what the dealer comes back with. He did find it strange too.

They only did that one time when I tried to figure out what was "wrong". I might have overloaded the system by all my desperate and chaotic button operations. Now it seems to act like yours and several others in here. I wonder if this is just the way it should be?

Hi all, I have this same issue on my vRS - what's the verdict?

I have played around with it but can't seem to work out what it's doing! Thanks in advance for any updates :-)

It's normal, if you manually adjust the fan speed to that that would be set when in Auto then it switches to Auto and the lights for fan speed go out.

I noticed mine does that. The 2nd light can be on, on Auto but when I change the fan speed manually it doesn't light up. I was going to get it looked at next week when mine goes in for the bolero display having a mind of its own sometimes.

I'm sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. With this turning off of the LED light the system just lets you know which value the "auto" setting sets the fan speed to.

you can do a test, too - I'll try to explain it how I discovered this feature myself:

1. set a temeprature and push the AUTO button

2. turn the fan speed knob to your left, counter clockwise to zero (and by this, the auto settings shuts off), then turn it to your right (clockwise) and see at which step the next LED does not light up --> this is the auto setting

3. somewhere in the setup of the climatronic system you can set the amount of power you want to use with the climatronic (dont remember the exact term but something like economy, medium and high/powerful). Change this setting and then repeat steps 1 and 2. you will see that now a different LED will stay off to tell you that the default "auto" setting of fan speed changed.

Thanks Neily03 and martinko, I'm not used to all this electronic climate control stuff! :-)

I personally don't think it's the best UI to turn off lights to indicate the auto setting, it would've been better to light up the fan light as normal as is it really relevant to know what fan setting is the auto setting and I wouldn''t expect it to switch auto on unless I press the Auto button? I don't tend to use auto at the moment, so I like to control fan speed myself (I guess I'm too used to my old car that didn't have climate control), so when I look down and see it skip a light it always leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

My opinionated rant is over.

Hi, i'm looking for an update on this.

The above is only half true. Along with step 2 please manually change direction of air flow (footwell, body or window, or combination of them). Then, if you start to turn the fan speed knob, you will see that on one of fan speeds "AUTO" does not light up and all LEDs stay off. I asked my dealer here in Poland about this and they said that this is common for cars up to MY 2014. Skoda changed described behaviour in MY 2015 Octavias onward. Control unit somehow remembers the fan speed setting on AUTO and does not show it on manual mode. They offered me no resolution to that. I'm curious whether you know any solutions. Maybe there is a VCDS coding for that.

(Sorry for my bad English).

Try this or a software update

Thank you andyvee, however it does not seem to be a solution. It will enable led on fan speed knob in AUTO mode which I'm not particularly interested in. It is one of the fan speeds in manual mode that is not properly shown on the knob.

Could any of MY 2015 Octavia owners tell the way it works in their cars?

What do you mean by software update? Do you mean firmware update for AC control unit? Is it possible to do? Could you elaborate on this?

Thanks in advance.

MY15 does not turn off the LESs, I tried it in mine this morning to check. Software update would have to be done by the dealer if Skoda authorise it to rectify a known issue, so you would have to take it up with your dealer.

I still don't get it why people use the climate control system with manual fan speeds though.

In most situations I don't. Only if my windows get misty and the AUTO mode is not enough to demist them.

Moreover, I simply hate when something does not work the way it is supposed to. I also don't want to hear in the future from potential buyers of my Skoda that something is wrong with AC unit and they expect discount.

But there isn't anything wrong with it?

Your only way of getting it to behave how you want it to and how MY15 cars do is to ask your dealer to seek authorisation for a software upgrade.

Have you tried just using the demist button instead?

I asked my dealer about an update - they know nothing about such possibility.

I can use demist button for a couple of seconds, however it turns on the highest fan speed which is equal to highest possible noise of the fan. After another 10 minutes windscreen gets misty again. I prefer to set manually higher fan speed than on Auto and have the problem solved for the whole time. But I'd like to see the speed it is set on.

I know there is nothing wrong (besides no led lights on on one of the fan speeds in manual), however after 5 years when it comes to sell the car it can be not so obvious for the buyer.

I'll try the coding, maybe it does more then only turning on the leds permanently in Auto.

Have you set your air con profile to strong in the climatronic setup? Mine came from the factory set to medium.

Spend x amount on a brand new car with a VW Climatic system in it and then complain 'cos one LED switches of when its running in auto !!!!!

Leave my cars Climatic system in auto all the time and just adjust the temp if needed. Never have a misting up proplems regardless if its only me or 4 persons in the car with wet coats etc.

Do have the winter pack so heated screen helps in the mornings, much reconmended.
