Those cable ties on the intercooler pipework.... Turbo size (before intercooler) will melt! Or probably have already! Pre intercooler it gets very hot indeed

Thats what Forge supply to use, they have been on for circa 6 years and 40k miles and no sign of melting!!!!

Doesn't get that hot :)

Fitted my 42 DRAFT / VERDICT shifter bushes today, great little mod that makes the gearshift really precise and tight B)

The car looks alot different now too, will get pics when its washed and not raining ;)

E-mailed Forge about the problem with the intercooler touching the end tank of aircon rad, they are discontinuing the cooler soon so are not going to alter the design.

They are now selling a Seat Sport style cooler, but have not fitted one yet to a Fabia. So they offered me a very good price on the new cooler fitted if I take the car to them so they can then sell it on as a Fabia fitment.

Pics next week of it fitted all being well :)

I have the forge seat sport style intercooler on my Fabia :) will be interested to see how you get on with it. Good work on the draft 42 and verdict bushes. Will have a go at fitting mine soon :)

Usually turbo side gets hot to touch! Pretty sure i've burnt myself on a intercooler pipe before

Well if its lasted that long then im an idiot :(

ah yeah, thought i had seen one on a vrs on here :)

Forge tell me the kit replaces the full pipe run from turbo to cooler,is it one long hardpipe with joiners each end, or a couple of hardpipes with multiple joiners?

It does get hot, but theres quite a difference between hot enough to burn your arm and hot enough to melt a cable tie!!!! :)

You still need to use the top plastic pipe that comes from the egr, or I did with my kit. I have since replaced some of the pipework with some custom hard pipes. The silicone hose coming from the turbo rubbed on the driveshaft a little bit

  • Author

Yeah they said cooler to inlet pipework goes to the plastic top pipe like my Forge one does now.

You just trimmed your VRS crash bar?Forge are thinking they might fit a Ibiza crash bar as they carry them in stock.

Got my m8 making me a custom top pipe ready for when I fit the EGR delete. :)

Yep trimmed the Vrs crash bar. I see the Ibiza crash bar is a bit slimmer so may look at getting one of them :)

Right managed to get some pics after a quick wash :)

Pressed steel number plates,Pasty boy badges front and rear and wheel centres, powder coated alloys fitted with Goodyear winter tyres, calipers painted, grill painted satin black,LCR splitter and I bought Danhams headlights when he bought new ones in the group buy :)

Anyone in the Midlands looking for there wheels to be powdercoated I can highly recommend City Powder coaters in Digbeth Brum,£20 per wheel blasted, dipped and coated B)

Massive range of colours too.

Whipped the bumper off to paint the crash bar that was cut and re-welded to fit the Forge Seat Sport style cooler and fit some better clamps :)

Pipework was replaced from turbo to cooler with this kit:

Fitted my Darkside EGR delete, which I got shortened so I could use a 90deg hardpipe instead of a silicone one,got my m8 to make me up a pipe.

So its now 57mm EGR Delete, then 57mm top pipe down to a 45deg reducing elbow to 51mm to match the Forge piping.

Pleased with the look of the top pipe :)

Excellent work man. I really want some of those clips!

Mine loosen off after tightening them quite hard.

Looks good Kev. Can you see the Forge paint through your lower grill? I've been thinking about the Airtec one with the logo - would look great through the wide mouth.

What pipe/ silicone did they use from the turbo mate?

Edit:

Just seen your second to last pic.

Mine had this but it started to rub on the driveshaft on full right lock

Cheers Dan.Don't think you can see logo, due to how far back the cooler sits!Would be abit more visible with your big mouth  :giggle:  but the cooler is still sat a long way back.

Cheers will keep an eye on it :)

But I'm sure its further away from the shaft than the standard alloy pipe was, that ha been touching shaft as you can see the clean bit on shaft where its removed the paint!

Love it. Where did you get ya number plates from?

Well my VRS is now GTB1756 powered :)

The MD374 started making siren sounds,Dirty Torque did a log on it and it seems the Custom Code map is very scruffy and it was over boosting which has shortened the life of the turbo :(

When I looked back threw the invoices the MD374 has done just over 60k miles so not a bad life time I suppose seeing as its been over boosting.

Anyhow,I like to upgrade where possible when replacing parts,so a GTB it had to be.

After abit of speaking to people that have been in the 1756 and 2260 I decided on the 1756 as I've got no plans for going bigger injectors/300 bhp etc!!

Turbo was bought off xman750 on here, complete with braided feed pipe and the flange to weld onto downpipe.

Other things I've used/had to do are 63mm to 51mm reducer onto turbo intake, extend the Forge turbo outlet pipe to gain clearance on bottom pulley, take apart the oil return pipe and use 11mm ID oil resistant hose between the standard fittings, the braided pipe pulls off the fittings easily with mole grips and the pipe held in the vice, the Miltek DP did not need modifying at all apart from the GTB flange welding on,and I made up a brace bracket for the lower part of turbo like the standard one has.

The other thing I got modified was the outlet on the compressor housing, cut it off and rewelded on coming off the housing straight to gain clearance for the boost pipes and make it easier to line them up :)

PIcs showing the size differences between the PD150 hybrid and the GTB1756:

Is it mapped to suit yet?

Cheers.

Not mapped yet, only just fitted it today! :)

Should have waited till new year to fit it really, but siren sounds were getting worse so thought best get the hybrid off sooner than later.

Just have to keep my foot up untill mapped :)

Cracking work Gramps. Wheels look ace now they're fitted!!

Catch up soon Kev.

Great work coskev. Obviously a man who knows what he is doing!

I loved the almost standard look at the start, but really like the changes since B) Will be keeping an eye on this to see how you get on with the new turbo with LSD set-up.

I don't like his LSD. Reason being its made me want one :(

Is it mapped yet? :D

let me know when you get it RR be interesting to see the results

What power did it make on the Hybrid?

hopefully i'm going to get my setup to 2.1bar

Cheers for picking them up Matt :)

Thought you had been quiet, but I suppose being the Grinch it is not your favorite time of the year ;)

Thanks,LSD is a really good mod now with the power the GTB is putting to the wheels

You don't like it cause you love it!!!! :giggle: Funny to see your disbelief when you booted it off that little roundabout and it felt like the front end of car was going to be ripped off due to the grip!!

Great to meet you and thanks for trying to explain remapping to me :nerd: ,very complicated when its done properly like you do it  B)

Is it mapped yet?

Yeah she is,going well now.Much much smoother driving now at normal speeds/lower throttle positions too.Lots of the Custom Code map was standard,it was just mapped the easy/lazy way to get the power. :@

let me know when you get it RR be interesting to see the results

What power did it make on the Hybrid?

Yeah will get it on the rollers some time.I did not personally put the MD374 on rollers, but had a print out from when JBS mapped it.

Showing 203bhp/310lb ft torque, prev owner says he asked them for a smoother map and not to max the turbo out as it was a daily driver.

Ref 2.1 bar, from what John did with mine yesterday you will struggle to get any gain running 2.1bar,as mine has been taken to the max of the injectors as it is now.

Tried upping it and no more power was felt, all it did was increase the smoke out the back.

So from what I understand all you will be doing running 2.1bar is working/wearing your turbo more for no gain in power.

A note to anyone that says bigger turbos spoil the driveability of these cars,a good remap is the key to the driveability.

Mine now has no more noticable lag than the MD374 with Custom Code map,and not alot more lag than Johns standard VRS!

We both had a drive in each others cars and it was the first bigger turbo'ed VRS John had drove and he commented on the driveabilty hardly being affected
