Anyone else getting prices this high at 28?

Featured Replies

Still find it shocking that at the grand old age of 28, with 9 years NCB, a few mods (exhaust, suspension, air filter, dump valve and tints but NO REMAP) and I'm not getting anywhere lower than £950....

I have 3 points for a TS10 2 years ago but that doesnt make a massive difference on the price (believe me, I checked). Its mainly the mods and can easily see close to £400 as standard.

modding the car sees you over DOUBLE the price? really?!

oh, and its on a low mileage policy (less than 5000 per annum)

That's the insurance game!

Is this with any specialist insurers or just bog standard?

I'm 33 and just been quoted over 900 on a standard vrs cr octavia with flux! Was paying just over 600 for my modified fabia. Goin ring round a few over next few days. Surly I will beat that

Postcode lottery?  Some areas can be bad regardless of age & history, :)

As much of a pain as it is, you have to ring around. Don't use price comparison sites. Every year I ring at least 8 different companies, then go back to my current provider to see if they can match my best quote. If not it's adios. Yes it's a pain answering the same questions, but you can save hell of a lot of money.

Hmmm, I think I leave mine standard and enjoy the £300 yearly insurance bill! 36 isn't that old is it??

I got quoted 406 on moneysupermarket. I want to leave it standard. . . . . . .but can't.

Hi,

Have you had a quotation from ourselves? If so was it the £950.00. If you have had a quotation from us I'd be happy to take another look at it for you or if you haven;t you're more than welcome to PM me your details and I can arrange for one of my quotes team to ring you back.

Regards,

Dan.

I'm paying £500 for my stage 2+ octavia from Greenlight in what I believe to be a medium/high-risk area (if you believe what you read in the daily mail).

Adrian flux have just sorted me out - few mods, none to enhance power - I am 30, 9yrs NCD £300 for the year, £150 excess, protected NCD, c/car, legal etc, all the bells and whistles and mods declared!

Dan, yes this was with yourselves closely followed by Directline.

Sadly, as this was the cheapest I had no room to haggle for price.

When I was first looking at Octavias, I got a quote from AF, came in at £850 for a 1.9D Elegance on a 07 plate (no mods), that was with the Brisky discount (apparently). Actually got insured for £350 elsewhere. AF seem to be good for anything that's not standard / rare / oddball.

I'm 28, 10years ncb, paying about £640 for a standard Octavia vrs with SDP & Business use for 25000 miles a year

I went through a broker over the net and then told them over the phone everything I wanted covered

28 10 years NCB £360 Octy VRS TDI (stage 1) fully comp with SDP&C 12K and 5K business miles. Best quotes I was getting was around £700 due to remap then found one who seemed to not care and matched the non remap price. This was when I was meant to move back to UK a few months back but haven't now :( so hoping they are still favourable when I go back.

I found my quote through The Insurance Factory then direct to someone who quoted me low for the car without remap but their mass quote system refused me cover with same company when I added it, went direct to the insurance company and they were happy to cover only went up £40 from non remap price.

Could be worse, only a few insurers will touch me due to my postcode and car being modified :(

Result is a premium over £1k most years (currently £110p/m), specialist companies tend to either not touch me or want well in excess of £2k, I'm 27 with 6yrs NCB

Dont tell them its modified..... simple

Typical. Good luck if you have a bump and not notified your insurance. You'll lose your car and wont get paid out, oh and blacklisted.

I found similar - my octy was over 3x dearer to insure than a fully declared supercharged MX5 that was worth more and much faster.

Guess the Octy is well suited for chavs and crims now. :(

What if you increase your annual mileage to a more average 12k?

Could it be the insurer sees a performance car with someone who drives it too little so placing a higher risk?

I think the Octy is just an expensive car to insure.

That an that insurance companies keep uping the age at which it comes down. ;)

That is dirt cheap,  I insure the mongrel for just under £500 with Flux, but my car does need a special policy.  Good job I live in a good postcode too....
