i have a 1.6 tdi 2011 skoda fabia cr,

when i start it up it says "MFD" on the dash,

why does it says this and what does it mean?

also, what does the "CR" stand for?

Common Rail.

MFD - Multi Function Device, the trip computer.

 

CR - Common Rail,  the diesel injectors are supplied with diesel from a common rail containing high pressure Diesel.

when i have traveled in my car and i turn the ignition off, theres a noise that sounds like someone is shuffling there feet, does it about 4 time,

is this the CR?

I might well be talking about something "MFD" a lot older, as in the earliest VW cars that had computers on telling you mpg, trip and not much else?

According to the manual, MFD stands for Multi Function Display not Multi Function Device.

We all call it Maxidot anyway so I don't think it matters that much what it means.

Its the throttle valve cycling, quite normal.

Maxi dot isn't MFD.  Maxi dot is the full screen.  Pikeys like me with a Monte (and other models) will have MFD - the basic Instant MPG, Av MPG, range, time driving, etc.

And Nathan - if you ask the feet shuffling question again, someone might answer it!! ;-)

That is MDF ( medium density fibreboard)

And MFD is multi function display as most have said

MFD  could be 'multi functional drawers' in which case we are back to MDF and kitchen units!
