What options?

Featured Replies

Hello!

Im looking to place an order for a new Octavia VRS estate soon and having never owned a Skoda before i was wondering what are the must have options? The car is being purchased due to the birth of my son and with having a dog my current car is far to impractical.

Im also wondering if meteor grey looks good on the octavia or is it a safer bet to go for the white or red?

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

i changed my order from white to meteor grey, just took a stab into the unknown, there is a thread here with pics, and looks nice, sparewheel cc blackpack and sunset are my options

Spare wheel

A spare wheel for £75 is essential IMO. I'd also class cruise control as a must have, seeing as it's missing from standard kit.

Other than that, the winter pack for £430 is something that could make a big practical difference to the car.

You are then left with either styling tweaks like different wheels, leather seats or the black pack, or gadgets like sat nav, sunroof and so on.

All of these are very much personal choice depending on what's essential to you.

The pics on here http://www.the-car-addict.com/2013/08/Gallery-Skoda-Octavia-RS-Combi-Steel-Grey.html?m=1 are probably some of the best meteor grey pics I've come across.

On options it's a purely personal thing. They don't seem to make much of if any difference to residual value so just what you want / would like really.

Personally I added

Meteor Grey

Cruise control - I also feel this should be a must and was surprised it wasn't standard.

Winter pack - I ordered TDI so for me this was a must for the heated screen as diesels take so long to warm up in cold weather.

KESSY - Just like the idea of not having to always have my keys to hand.

Amundsen sat nav - wanted a sat nav without wires and was always ready to use, wasn't willing to pay for Columbus.

Sunset Glass - reduce glare from the sun on the kids and looks good.

Black pack - Just looks nice.

If you can come up with a reason to yourself why you should get it then I'd say if you can afford it, go for it.

We have a young daughter so the leather seats were ordered for easy wiping down. You might think the same for your little one.

Winter pack for those winter mornings on the way to work!

Alot of it comes down to personal choice i.e. i also went for columbus, canton, kessy, black pack, privacy glass but none of those are essentials so its just whatever you fancy and if its in your budget.

Hi,

don't say which engine, as that can effect the odd option you have access to. However as very much above in order of importance to me;

Spare wheel

Cruise control

Winter pack (diesel only option mind)

Variable boot floor (easier loading for day to day use)

Sunset glass

Colour Maxidot

Leather seats (easier cleaning as previously highlighted)

Paint I went with white on our non vRS Combi order; preferred to spend on options rather than colourising the car.

Thanks guys!

I'm going for the TDI as my current car lives in a petrol station so it would be nice to have a change.

It's a shame that CC isn't standard and also that you have to spec keyless entry as both have been standard on my Clio for years.

The leather idea is a good point and I imagine will be on the options list along with the black pack boot mat and stereo upgrades.

Thanks

Xenons, Parking sensors, Sunroof.

Any other color except White.  :bandit:

Er xenon's and rear parking sensors are standard.....

The only option I couldn't live without is the spare wheel.

Eerything else is just nice to have.

If you own a TomTom, Garmin or even a decent smartphone then don't bother with the Columbus or Amundsen, whilst they're nice & pretty, you'll already have the sat nav functionality with your other device, so save yourself between £500 & £1350 and buy something else more useful, like a boot liner, rubber mats for winter etc or even a set of alloys & winter tyres.

Also you may find that specifying those will add to your delivery times.

To me the best options are:

Kessy

Cruise Control (Standard)

Spare Wheel

Winter Pack which includes Heated Washers, Heated Windscreen & Heated Seats (Couldn't have the windscreen as I have a TSi)

Colour Maxidot.

I would have liked to have added the Sunset Glass, but I didn't think of it at the time.

Sensible, black pack makes the car I think; also not really worth going to town on options the cars much better spec'd than its MK2 equivalent might as well enjoy some good old value for money.

Hmmmm...  I went for the crew protection as we have a small child and as standard the rear passengers have no side airbags, had the front not had side airbags I probably wouldn't have thought of the rear but, knowing I've got more protection than my child doesn't make me feel good.  Hope we'll never need them but, if we do I'd just prefer us all to have them.

I did order the boot net too as I thought it would be very handy although, probably not if your dog likes to chew things.

Good shout - I've spec'd mine with everything pretty much but not this. For some reason I thought it was standard on the VRS?

Hmmmm I saw some of those crash test videos and the amount of side penetration at only 17 mph ok with a ton & quarter but, it still scared me and thinking your a safe driver don't come into it, the side of your car is all about someone elses driving, some of those big 4 X 4 that posh housewives drive, weigh more than 1-1/4 ton & have 300-400 bhp, that's Fn scarey.

I like the inbuilt security from a rear end shunt where 99% of accidents happen. Another advantage of that huuuuuuuuuge boot.
