MK1 VRS to a Monte Carlo 105 TDi

Featured Replies

Hi All,

As per the topic title, I am considering changing to a Monte Carlo 1.6 TDi 105 to replace my current 55 plate MK1 VRS, just wondering...

Currently I do a 25 mile commute (each way), mostly A roads and a few miles on the motorway. I regularly achieve an average of 57mpg over the tank in my VRS but have concerns that wont be achievable in a Monte. Was thinking a re-map would sort some of this out though.

Has anyone made a similar change..can share their thoughts on MPG, overall differences etc

My other car options so far are Volvoe C30 (although 2 years older with another 20-30k on the clock), Seat Ibiza 2.0 TDi 143ps FR 6 speed or the smaller 1.6 TDi but this would be the same as a Monte I reckon.

Thanks in advance

Why don't you think you'll achieve that MPG?

I blatted to Bristol and back yesterday - 70 miles each way.  On the way there, I got 50mpg and averaged 53mph.  On the way back, I got about 48mpg, but I was driving through biblical thunderstorms and either side of those, I was "pushing on".

The last time I did a longer journey (my commute used to be 10 miles each way, twice a day, that averaged 49mpg), it was indicating 62mpg and I wasn't dawdling.

As to the differences, I can't help, as I never had a Mk1 VRS, but did have a PD 140 Octavia and a PD 105 Greenline Superb II - the Fabia is as good as those and much nippier, thanks to less weight.

The remap will give more available power and may move you into the power/torque band at different rev ranges, so could help economy more as a result.

I find that I get the best mpg on a-roads; the motorway miles that I do , about 80 a week, are probably the lowest mpg as the shape of the car causes so much drag above 60mph. I can easily get high 50s or low 60s on a normal a-road run and the overall average for the car since new (currently at approx. 2950 miles) is 56.5 according to the cars computer.

Thanks for the real world figures. Still deciding, looking at a focus 1.6tdci also, 115ps, £20 tax, 6speed and claimed better fuel economy.

Residual value will be less though but maybe a bit more pratical..

Need to do some test driving I think
