Replacing an Amundsen+ with a Columbus?

Featured Replies

Hi!

I am trying to figure out if the connections on the Amundsen+ ICE system I have in my Superb II FL are the same as on the Columbus if I find a very late 2013 model, if it's just a simple switch between the two ICE systems, if anything needs to be reprogrammed to make the Maxidot display work and show all the info including route directions from the GPS, what needs to be done to make the climate control changes show up and make the steering wheel buttons to work ...???

Well, many questions ... and they do not seem to be on the top of my local dealer priority list ... ;-)

Anyone that has done a similar swap?

Have a nice end of the week and weekend!

Straight swap only 4 digit code required

They use the same quadlock and pin outs appear the same.

So straight swap. Shouldn't think any coding would be needed either as long as the Amundsen+ has sat nav already.

If not you'll need a GPS antenna and will need done coding going to get it all working properly.

Thanks "Skippy41" and "KBPhoto"! Sounds good, if I hear nothing else I know what I will do during  the Christmas vacation ... ;-)

... and yes, the Amundsen+ already has sat nav.

Have a nice one!

Hmm, forgot to ask but I assume that the "straight swap" theory also apply to the Bluetooth and averything else that is already in place with the Amundsen+. I better ask one time too many before spending my money ... ;-)

Thanks in advance!

As BT, sat nav, etc are all built in to the Amundsen+ then it is a straight swap.

If you discover anything isn't working quite right, then it shouldn't be anything that a but if coding with VCDS won't fix.

To the best of my knowledge.

The only thing you would need to do is retro fit a DAB aerial if you opted for an Amundsen with in built DAB.

If I am reading this correctly you are thinking of going from the Amundsen to a Columbus in which case you will probably loose BT unless you have the external BT unit. The Columbus (if the same as mine in an Octavia II and an RNS 510) does not include BT. It is a separate module that is installed under one of the front seats in an Octavia II.

Unless anyone knows different to my knowledge.

Good point - I misread before my last reply.

The Columbus does not have BT built in, so you will lose this if it is built in to your Amundsen+.

Hi again and thanks everybody for your input!

I had a feeling that it wouldn't be as easy as I thought from the beginning ... ;-) ... That's my reason for asking again, and again ...

Ok, I am not a modern car mechanic, nor am I a modern car electrician and that goes for anything later than 1972! I hate to take all those plastic clips apart destroying most of them in the process, not to mention plastic panels and other stuff ... so I will stick with the Amundsen+ for the time being since I don't like to lose any functionality and if some things does not completely work I will irritate myself "to death" ... So until I find someone that knows how to do this, and maybe help me "on-site", I'll just lean back enjoying my (superb) Superb as it is!

Have a nice evening and once again thank you for all your help! What a great place to hang out ...

Also I would point out that the Amundsen is completely "solid state" memory whereas the Columbus has a hard disc drive. if you search this forum for the Columbus there are at least as many who "swear AT" their Columbus as there are folk who would "swear by" it!

Amundsen doesn't get much coverage on this forum. I suspect this is simply because there are relatively few of them out there on Superbs as they were only standard equipment on the SE Plus model (UK)

Hi and yes, I have noticed that as well!

What I am looking for is a possibility to have my maps updated on a more regular basis, right now it seem to me that most maps for Sweden and Denmark are from 2009-2010 even though I am running V.4 maps. At least in some areas and even though it is on "B" roads I was hoping for something better. Apart from that I am pleased with the functionality as well as sound, I also like my Bluetooth connection for my phones and the fact that I can have the navigation showing in the Maxidot while showing something else on the head unit.

Well, well ... I am still a very happy Superb owner! And Briskodian!
