LED 'puddle' lights

Featured Replies

Great mod! Well worth the £££ to ensure feet are kept dry this winter :)

Would this be the same for the rear passenger doors too? I can't (off the top of my head) remember if the rear doors get the same light in the door card. Also, could the wire be fed behind the door card easily too? If I can avoid drilling any holes in anything I'd rather go down that route.

Although the rear door don't have lights, no reason that you could not take a feed from the wires in the door loom. I may do this as like the idea of all doors having puddle lights.

How would you wire into the switch to turn them on when the rear door opens? Anyone know if the wiring would be heavy enough on the rear switches?

Think that you won't be able to,  or really need to wire to the switches as they are internal micro switches in the door mechanism. That lock Mechanism  operates micro switches when the door is opened by being pulled away from the catch.

I would of thought that there are wires travelling through the "B" pillar that head towards the door lock mechanism that you can tap into(similar to the front door wiring to the door lights).  That is what I am going to investigate further.

Hmmm, let us know how you get on. I can't think of an easy way myself, short of installing a new spring switch.

Presumably it could be wired in to be permanently on quite easily, I don't know how it would look in the car but some people on here have added led lighting under seats/around the pedals and glovebox and I thought it looked pretty awesome. It would be hidden substantially so I assume it would look okay and not blinding.

Hmm having a quick check yesterday , it seems the rear doors opening do not trigger the interior light? Or i am going mad.

Therefore there may not be micro switches to even register door open. If that is the case then switches would need to be fitted and powered up and then take a feed from those to the puddle lights.

ughh, That could get messy. I'll keep my eyes out for an appropriate switch.

I could have sworn the rear doors activated the light on the dash, but now that I think of it, I don't think I've ever actually tried it.

The rear door on opening on mine triggers the interior light and the light on the dash.

Mine too.

So I guess youd need a feed from there, sounds a bit too much effort!

You could probably find which wire sends the signal if you got the door card off and used a multimeter to see which wire 'lights up' when the door is opened..

Put a very small and discrete strip of 3 LEDs on mine. Really happy with it as it's not at all gawdy looking and very functional.

Thanks OP.

Interesting as mine don't, need to see  what is going on.

That the best way and what i was going to do, until i discovered my door opening does not operate interior light so checking this out.

I have a spare set of LED strips so can mess about on this.

Right update.

Found my left rear door was triggering interior lights so how long the right has failed i have no idea.

I have recently replaced rear right door loom as remote was failing to lock/unlock so perhaps something happened then.

Ok so today I had a spare rear door mechanism so fitted that and hey presto the interior light is now working both sides. Dam door micro switches again.

With door doing what it supposed to do i set about seeing how to get puddle lights working.

And i managed it so well  chuffed.

Will post up some pics tomorrow and add to the diy guide I did in techi section...

Fair Play Bowders :-) looking forward to the "Instructable", and the Pics!!

Nice

Looking good bowders. I still haven't done my fronts yet!

go for it dude.....

I might even place a front door warning light to the rear doors later too.

I've got them ready to go on. I'm lazy!! That's the problem.

Awesome - looks like a spaceship now :D

I am so doing this :)

Just fitted a front set on my car in my half hour lunch. Solder in and everything! Bring on the dark!! Lol.

I might do some for the boot, pair of led strips each side where the speakers are, glowing boot!

I was thinking that too...:D
