Is it me? Australia change

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Have I done something wrong?

Like other people on this forum, I wanted to get rid of the KPH display on my non-maxidot MFD dash. Following the instructions given by others on this forum, I changed the country to Australia using VCDS. While it didn't change the KPH display, it did give me the option of displaying the mileage instead - part result?

I also noticed a new section in the MFD that was current speed in mph - not quite what I wanted but another option not available while the car was set to UK.

Not long after this, I noticed that my fuel consumption had become really poor. Where I would be averaging 30-36 mpg, I was now getting 23-30 mpg. I just put this down to the cold weather and longer periods on leaving the engine running to clear the frost etc.

Then I started did a long journey, Cheshire to London. While running at 79mph on the cruise control the consumption was again at 30mpg rather than the 36mpg previously seen. This was weird as the miles travelled on a tank didn't change.

Then my high speed brain kicked in and I realised that the poor consumption indication had only started after I changed the country to Australia. At the next services stop, I plugged my laptop into the car and changed the country back to UK, and lo the consumption is instantly back to 36!!

I haven't seen anything like this discussed on the forum before.

Do I just have a weird car, or did I do something wrong?

Any ideas anyone?

You have to follow the instructions in the how do I adaptions at the top of this section fully.

ie change back to UK gallons, and get the external temp display back etc.

Yeah, I looked at that, but I don't have a maxidot.

Australian Miles are shorter than UK ones

Or longer... ;)

Aha, that must be it then.

I knew I'd get a solution here

Or longer... ;)

........that's what I meant

Miles are the same everywhere - I think!! My guess is it got confused somewhere between miles and kilometres as a result of the change you made. Ie it was interpreting the miles you were driving as kilometres.

Are Aus, gallons the same as the US ones?
ie.

Smaller than ours?

That would be my guess, once coded to ‘Australia’ it automatically change to KM/100L so needs to be changed back to UK MPG

1 UK gallon = 4.546 litres

Same as in Australia, so it's not that.

My guess is that something in the changes is not compatible with your non-Maxidot display.

What display do you have?

PS: 1 UK gallon = 1.201 US (liquid) gallons.

PPS: Adam - miles are the same all over the world (unless at sea...).

Are Metric Miles not shorter?

Are Metric Miles not shorter?

Since 1959. No.

since 1971, yes. About 0.621 of a mile... :)

Does it read upside down? :giggle:

My guess is that Gizmo68 is correct.

36mpg = 7.847 litres/100km (or 1274 Km / 100 litres)

BUT...

36mpg = 29.976 miles / US gallon.

So, although an Australian gallon is bigger than a US one, your car appears to be displaying US figures...

Mines Australian and I think it measures how many Shrimps on the Barbie as to Miles per kilometre

I just have the basic MFD display

Thanks to all for the suggestions, even ChrisRs for the upside down question
