Cheap Supermarket Air

Featured Replies

Now I've been thinking. Air has moisture in it so in winter it will freeze    and could cause no end or problems with braking and alike so would it be best if you put warm air in, at least it won't freeze       :wait:

On the plus side, if it did freeze it would provide puncture resitance

I actually fill mine with expanding foam, no punctures and I get roughly 900 miles to the gallon.   They are rather hard though and the ride is terrible

  • I find that my 0-60 times drop by 0.3 sec with premium air and the radio reception drastically improves along with the sound quality...

  • I cannot fathom why you lot are using air in your tyres? Custard I can kinda understand but let's be honest jam is the best. Tyres are really just big doughnuts and we all know the jam filled ones are

I've read through this thread and I'm annoyed and frustrated that no one has yet mentioned the delays involved with obtaining non-supermarket air.

I ordered premium branded air from a Shell dealer in August of this year, but I'm still on Status 10.  I was told in September that my order was sat in Emden ready to be shipped!

I won't be buying branded air again - supermarket air all the way from now on.

Warm air will hold more moisture, you need to use air that has been piped through your aircon system so that the humidity is lowered.

This has the added benefit of being denser, so you get more mpg.

Only use official Skoda air though or you will invalidate your warranty.

My wife blows mine up, loads of hot air

We ARE talking about tyres you know.

So was Auric...I believe he is still on a ban :)

I think all of us in this topic are pretty dense, it shows quite well so far... :D

I hope you've got a lid for that bucket to stop the Skoda approved air getting contaminated.

By the way, if you can get an oil drum and get the dealer to fill that up, it works out cheaper...

Yes, I put a lid on the bucket when it's filled up because I go for the slightly better compressed air rather than the standard air. It's compressed at 2.5 bar into the bucket, I then use a funnel and some garden hose to pour the air into the tyres. I've found it goes in better if the tyre valve is at the the top of the wheel.

I also use a lid on the bucket as a few months ago I went to my dealer for some genuine Skoda approved compressed air and on the way home from the dealer the bucket fell over (no lid on!), there was compressed air everywhere, I'm still trying to get it out of the boot carpet now. I always use a lid now.

I don't need a oil drum size, it would last way past it's sell by date. You can't use stale air in the tyres, just in case there is a problem and Skoda send it away to be anaylised. I don't want to void my warranty.

That makes a lot of sense.  Can you use VCDS to do the mod to route the air through the aircon?

I fill mine with Shell V-Power diesel.

This has two benefits:

1. If I am running out of fuel in the back of beyond, I don't have to worry about finding a petrol station; and

2. The tyres last longer than with supermarket fuel, cos it's better quality fuel.  FACT.    :giggle:

You can indeed, You need VCDS 12.12 and look for an adaptation channel on your HVAC that is 'automatisierte Luftentfeuchter für Reifendruck - ist, dass Bullen kann ich riechen'

All the new fangled adaptation channels on a MkIII are in German

You need to set this channel to enabled

I have just discovered I cannot have a canister of unicorn gas in case of a puncture. I have decided to buy a skinny spare and have been advised that this will be filled with donkey farts as it is not recommended to exceed 50 mph so the more expensive unicorn gas is not required. Failing that I can carry a goat, which I must feed on sprouts, in the boot with a fast coupling up its exhaust. This option has a blow off valve which unfortunately renders the interior of the car uninhabitable, so It doesn't really matter what I put in the tyres as I cannot drive the car. Decisions.....

Could you use the goat to protect the inside of the car? Set the blow-off valve to release the gas when the alarm goes off and any thief should make a sharp exit.

Mmm, If I could plumb the goat into the inlet manifold via a switch on the throttle, would it be as good as nitrous? Bit of a thread hijack though.

(wanders off into the night to find a flatulent goat)

Come on guys let's keep this on topic lol!

I'm lucky, at work I can phone up parts suppliers and have stuff delivered.  Had some Ford parts delivered last week and the boxes contained (in addition to the parts ordered) some genuine Ford air, and they didn't even invoice us for it - result!

This is just a load of Sergei's Buttocks.

Those of you who are on the graveyard shifts will know what I'm on about.

ha,... fooled me

I fill mine with cement. I find it prevents me from taking off when I'm doing 3 billion mph down the M1. And i don't get punctures!

Have you gone for the optional canvas roof and eco-friendly hole in floor options too? I think they are both in the "Yabadabadoo" pack.

Just remember to spec the additionally stiffened drivers side suspension otherwise you'll have hell on at the drive thru when you try to drive off with your mastodon ribs.

When i serviced my car i changed the air in the tyres........wow,what a improvement.......i now get 95 mpg & the car now accelerates faster than a 2.0 fabia......im thinking i should change the air in the tyres every 2 years like the brake fluid!

I'm starting to think that there's an air of madness in here!

If you're on variable servicing and it's a fleet car the air only needs replacing after three years according to Skoda... Can't think why that would be?

But you'll never match the performance of the Fabia Mk II VRS no matter how much new air you use :)

I only use newborn baby farts in my tyres. Hard to get hold of but the car now returns around 100mpg and glides over the bumps.

Baby farts are the way forward I tell you!!

My farts are the way forward, especially after I've eaten cabbage, sprouts, stuffing & runner beans.  :@
