Real world MPG

Featured Replies

Well I have has the octavia estate 150ps dsg for about a week now

I have filled it up with my plumbing tools and have been doing the usual work thing.

My mileage is about 50/50 town / A roads

First two fills calculated from fuel in and miles driven have given me  one tank at 46 miles /gal and one at 47 miles /gal

How happy can a man be ? My Grand Cherokee used to give me 23/25 miles /gal !!!!!!

I wish I had bought one a couple of years ago, although this new model looks much better than the MKII

I just have to keep it clean now !!!!!!

Most I've had is 40.5 since refuel

Suppose its all down to driving style...driving like a granny in in eco mode (vRS TDI) commuting to work I'm averaging 55m/g

I am thinking I would get less range in a petrol octy 3 than a fabia mark 2 petrol. Hmm.

The mpg should improve with more mileage,my mk2tdi vrs now has 16k on it and does up to 63mpg on a combined trip, driving gently and around the 57 mark with a bit ocf thrash,iv been told that my mk3 tdi vrs estate will be more economical

Just had a 46 mpg on a trip to the coast using cruise control, so even if it was 10% out that's still a very reasonable 41.4 mpg, which considering the car has only 190 miles on the clock is really good IMO.

Checked my true figures against the trip computer. That showed 48 mpg, so not far out. Approx 2% if you take the 46 mpg reading.

I've got the 1.6 tdi and get around 59mpg with mixed driving and around 64mpg with a long motorway trip.

Got to say I mighty impressed with the mpg on the car!

40mpg so far. Then again it is a 150 PS 4x4, and only has 30 miles on the clock :-)

got up to 54mpg on a 1st long run.

I have the 2.0 tdi 150 with DSG. Mainly sit at 80 on motorway and average 200 miles a day. currently showing 47mpg over 3400 miles so far travelled - I have had the car 4 weeks tomorrow!. One trip saw 52. something in ECO mode, but i found the coasting function a bit unnerving so just stick with normal.

I did manage around 20 miles with a 0 range showing before i chickened out and filled up - but still only got 46 litres in the tank - which holds "around 50 litres" according to the manual.

I haven't seen much above 450 miles on the potential range once i have filled up.

I had an A8 3.7 V8 that i used for work, i filled that up in Oldham, drove over Saddleworth Moor onto the M62, at one stage I had a range of 860miles showing, felt gutted as it dropped to 770 as i left the M62 and joined th A1 - 90 miles lost just by going around one bend!! - it was a 20 gallon tank though!!

Every time I fill up I make a note of the mileage and litres added and cost per litre which I then put into a spreadsheet.

From this for my car, 2l Elegance Estate, currently with 4000 miles:

Average over 4000 miles 51,75 MPG    Average over last 4 fills (approx 1200 miles) 53.14 MPG.

I fill till the pump clicks then go to next full litre, this has given fill MPGs between 48.25 and 59.64, but they are tending to get higher as the miles go on.

Very happy with these figures, for comparison my previous VRS estate, with PD engine averaged 42,5 MPG

40-42mpg commuting to work.  46-47mpg on motorway.

Love almost everything about the DSG box except fuel economy.

Really isn't at it's best connected to a diesel, needs a petrol to get the most benefit.

Glad I'm not the only one with these sort of mileage figures. All I've seen before is someone on fuelly managing a 52avg in the 2.0 TDI DSG and I've been wondering just how in the hell he's been managing that.

I knew there would be an advantage of me not being able to afford DSG :giggle:

Ha! I hear ya. I keep debating each day if I made the right call. Any 1.6 TDI DSG folks ok here? What are you seeing?

When I first got my car (VRS TDI) and was driving it really nice, I was getting 48-50 ish (managed 52 one day) but since I've just started driving my normal style I'm getting 42-48mpg (getting better as runs in) on my commute, which is a mix of 30-40mph and bumper to bumper traffic.

Had a run to Liverpool, with about 350 miles on the clock at the time, and the comp said 50.2mpg but a rough brim to brim came out at 54.7mpg but not bothered checking enough to verify the accuracy of the trip comp.

For a car of its size and power I'm very impressed.

Is that me?

I'm averaging about 51, but I do regular long runs which get me mid to high 50s, the round town stuff is mid 40s, and fuelly and the trip computer aren't a million miles apart.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

Hi,

Can you all post your speed average next to MPG. I think it would be an indicator to what sort of a drive you have. Open road or city center.

Mine is 2.0TDI CR150, manual transmission with long term 31mph and 45,23 mpg average.

Just had a 46 mpg on a trip to the coast using cruise control, so even if it was 10% out that's still a very reasonable 41.4 mpg, which considering the car has only 190 miles on the clock is really good IMO.

Interesting, yesterday I did a 300 mile round trip in mine. Mix of roads and traffic conditions. In normal mode, which I believe is the most effective.

Achieved 41.5 mpg at an average speed of 48 mph.

Oh ! I don't drive like an" old fart". A lot down to driving style , you can be quick and smooth , makes all the difference.

Going to work /local mileage,it's doing approx. 36 mpg.

Pretty good , just turned 3000 since Sept yesterday , so engine etc. must be beading in

Is that petrol or diesel?

My TDI VRS has done 800 miles and the long-term average is at around 40. Took it on a good run on Sunday and was getting 49.

Going up to Liverpool next week and then the Lake District over Christmas by which point the engine will be properly run-in.

Have 1.6 TDI DSG

Done 8000 miles, long term average 51mpg, wide mix of driving conditions.

Noticed MPG drops noticeably in cold condltions when temperature is in single figures.
