On a long run 40+ mpg easily achievable with the 220 vRS.

Normal mixed day to day driving is more like 32-33 mpg for me. Hence my post above - I was pleased with 45 mpg.

My long-term average is 34 ish. I do like a hoon / blat in sports mode occasionally

which doesn’t help, but then I didn’t buy a petrol vRS with economy in mind or at the top of my list........!

Thanks dunc it's good to know. It's my intention to get a VRS soon and it won't be driven like a granny every day :D

My Octy during a visit to a local detailer for a ceramic coating.  If only it stayed this clean, but I have to admit the ceramic coating makes car washing much easier.

How much did it cost you? Where did you go for it? Any details of prices would be good too please. Was looking at this when I got the car but because of other things I haven’t had a chance.

Has everyone seen this about the mpg rated by the manufacturers. They are now changing the way they are reported and how they are tested. I reckon all cars will have a drop in their claimed mpg from the manufacturer.

I was wondering which one is 'er prettier side? :)

Realized it is very important to keep tire sidewalls black on black wheels. It really didn't look good when they were so much lighter then the rim. Bought some cheap local dedicated stuff but it works. Doesn't make the tire shiny, looks like when it was brand new after it soaks the liquid.

All Done by Barry at Auto Detox, nice guy who knows what he's doing, he offers various levels of detailing and coating, prices are on his website

Mines been ceramic coated and yes it’s a lot easier to keep

looking pukka. Managed to get mine included in the deal when I bought or it costs around £600 to get done.

The devil makes work for ideal hands. Seens as I've been on early shift over the past week or so, it's given me a free afternoons.

Pretreated, washed and rinsed, clayed thoroughly (and despite being clayed not so, it certainly picked up a load of crud), 2 coats of polish, one of wax and one of sealant later and we get the above. You have to take my word for it, but from the pictures, you can't appreciate the shine and the depth the paintwork has now.

It only took 4 days to do but I was a little bit more obsessive doing it this time than I usually do.

Several weeks ago, some bird whose size I would assume to be rather large, had made one hell of a mess. The car was in need of a wash as it was dusty, so I wasn't too bothered.

Woe betide the bird who dares do it now!!!!!!

Great results @tunedude looks fantastic

@JohnnyType2 that looks stunning that. I do like the grey. Good work

Fun and games were had this last weekend...

We planned to go away for my birthday and give the GTi it's last proper run before our little one arrives. After nearly an hour putting the (ISO fix) child seat into the GTi, realising it hadn't gone in properly, then realising it was stuck, then pulling it out with brute force. (Then realising if we were going to get it in it would never come out again) We decided to take the Octavia because well it's a nicer car in every aspect other than acceleration (still no slouch tbf).

ISO Fix covers come off, child seat locked in and ready within at most, 15 seconds.

I think we covered about 400 miles all in so here's my thoughts very briefly:

Wider than I kept thinking

Fun around corners

Can move quite quickly when you really get on it and into the higher revs

Way wider than I thought

The sports steering wheel is a must

Still wider than I thought

Car looks good, nice scenic backdrop. Is that up by Trevose Head? Need to plan a walk back around that area soon.

Good eye, it was. Finding the car park was the real adventure! We didn't stay long as I was getting hungry and didn't fancy tackling the roads out ofthere whilst starving and impatient...
