63 reg or wait for 14 reg HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In a bit of a dilemma here and need some help!

Got a call from the dealer today saying my new Vrs should be ready to collect around mid Feb (around my birthday). However I've been thinking about adding the Canton sound pack, the dealer advised the if I did this he would be able to get the car on a 14 plate.

Any thoughts on what to do? I'm tempted to add the pack and get it on the new plate, but as a birthday pressy it wouldn't get any better than a new car!

Cheers

Col

Hi C,

Canton Pack is worth the money, bet extra I've had installed on any car.

Sounds like you've made your own decision Col! I'd have a 14 plate as a belated birthday present... the longer you have to wait, the more you'll appreciate it.

For the sake of a fortnight it's definitely worth waiting for the new plate. Being able to add a good option is just an added bonus.

Yes id wait, i want 5 weeks for for new reg's on my mk2 fabia vrs i had, because as soon as it passes the 1st of march or 1st september and the new reg's your car is old haha

Wait...feels like 63 has been out for ages already ;)

When its dirty after the first few days driving it could look 6 months old!  :giggle:

Thanks for the replies all,

I think it's nudged me over the edge and I'll wait for the new plate and get a great sound system to listen to the mighty Biffy Clyro :D

Plus it will hopefully be worth more when it comes to the next trade-in :)

Cheers

I've heard the Canton sound is worthwhile, but i wouldn't expect it to increase your trade in value extra's tend to not add anything, just be happy that your going to get a nice luxury :)

I think I'm going to be happy with the car for the next 3.5 years at least so I dispose any choice is the right one :D

When did you place your order for the car? I would defo wait for the new reg.

Placed the order on 02 Nov, so that's about a 5 month wait, but as they say all good things.....

Went of the Canton pack and the dealer has confirmed I'll get the car on a 14 plate :)

I've never got the whole "wait for the new plate" thing - especially if you are on finance? Why does it matter, any serious buyer is going to understand the age of the car anyway - the finance company in the case of a pcp will definitely know!

But a late Feb 14 (63 plate) car is always going to be worth a few hundred quid less than a 1st Mar (14 plate) car (everything else being equal).

Second hand buyers would see a 14 plate car as being newer than a 63 plate car despite possibly only a week (or day) difference in date of registration.

Get it sooner. Drive it sooner.

Money isn't everything and, if it was, then you're a numpty for buying a brand new car!

It's hard to argue with this logic... besides, in light of this forum I'd say Skodas delivery estimates are about as reliable and accurate as the government's unemployment figures.

I suppose it also comes down to the fact that if I got it around the 20th in just over a week it would feel like an older car I.e. a 63 plate, when for the sake of a week I would have another 6 months driving the latest plate.

Plus currently I'm doing a lot of driving on sh1tty roads in some "not so good parts of Glasgow" so I'm not really willing to subject the new Vrs to that if I can help it!

I'm happy with the choice I made and added a bit more luxury at the same time in the shape of the Canton sound system :)

Not in car but, I've got canton ceiling mounted speakers in my refitted kitchen & their the Mutts Nutts, worth the wait alone.

Regards
