:bump: According to the "top 1000" teams we had the biggest single WU production score total in the team's history - 3380 points - now up to 282 in the rankings! http://statsman.info/folding2stats

I'm actually cutting back my machines to save some electricity. :D

So' date=' I'll be down about 1/2 production unless I can outsource any folding. :)[/quote']

So theres a chance of catching you yet  ...been at 19 for ever, it's time to go up a few

Colin seems to have cut back to, for the last couple of weeks I have been slowly catching him. Gap at its most was nearly 20K points, not its down to 6K and falling. No1 is in my grasp.

Still good work, despite some cutting back by other members. We still need more power though, especially now we are starting to mix with the big players. Progress from position 199 upwards will be very slow with the current members.

You've gotta get past me first! :P

I noticed the statsman.org 1000 teams linked stopped working. Anyone got a good link to a general league table of all 1000 top teams? I'm not sure if the extreme site has one? Might have a scan. :)

During my paternity leave someone reused my shiny (dedicated :o ) folding machine at work so my productivity has fallen a bit. Time to go and steal it back!

With just under 50% of the team currently 'inactive', this could be a very difficult task. Although more people are getting involved, this is being cancelled out to a certain extent.

What about if those members suffering problems running folding could post the symptoms/errors etc, then maybe the folding/computer experts could help get them back up and running again?

I'd be interested to know too - Its run faultlessly with me. Only time I need to close it down is to play games sometimes. :) Not an issue much as I don't do PC gaming that often - got the PS2 for that. :)

Me too Jason. I've got it running a few machines now without any issues (Apart from someone asking "What's this Folding@Home thing about?". Hastily uninstalled and console version installed!)

Does the console version allow slightly faster folding as its not got all the graphics / DNA type genetic stuff going on? Or is marginal, to say the least. I've never looked into the console version before. :)

I was hoping you would know that, as I thought you might be one of the 'experts' I referred to earlier.

I honestly wouldn't know whether it is faster. The machines running console version are left to their own devices, as I rarely get the opportunity to check them out.

All the Best

I personally recommend running the console version as a service (W2K/XP) as it means it will start up when the machine starts up, it does not mess up anything to do with graphics cards (read: no gaming problems) and it is just easier.

The great thing is that you can pretty much forget about it then, no icons etc.

Problems with that approach:

* If something goes badly wrong you won't be able to tell unless you check the logs

* If you don't have an always-on connection (dialup etc) - avoid this and stick with the non-service'd version, be it console or GUI. That way you have more control and you can see when it connects.

Speed-wise there isn't much in it, although there is a little overhead of course having to draw stuff, it will use a little more memory to do so etc. I'd say less than 1/1000th difference in speed though.

IIRC isn't that one of the options that's in the DOS window when you first install it?

That's a point: With the GUI version, you right click the system tray icon, and can change the settings. How do you do that with the console version when it's already installed?

You know that "Unwisest Decison ever thread"??? ;) WE HAVE A WINNER!

Just in case anyone's running the Linux client (console only) - I have a wrap-around which will run it as a daemon (roughly equivalent of a Windows service). This means it can be started automatically on boot-up. It's working fine on my two Linux boxes.

stop the service, drop to a command prompt and use CD to locate the folder.

then type fah502-console -configonly

change settings and restart service.

Dont edit the cfg file in notepad or wordpad as they both break it, folding will continue but all submissions will be anonymous and not associated with our team.

Which was the unwise decision: suggesting you were an expert?

Jason, my excuse is that I don't know you very well!:D

A link for everyone's favourites! Would appear we're on a bit of a downward trend at the moment. :( Average is slipping a bit day by day. I'm trying to do my bit and expand my folding where I can.

How many machines have you got running Jason, as you are still well within the top 10?

All the Best

I only have 3 machines, but they don't run 24/7. Trying my best to find other ways.
