Accessing ECU control codes (for retro fit cruise control)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently been contemplating fitting cruise control to my MK1 estate. I spend most weekends travelling so do a lot of dull motorway driving. Anyway I have no problems with the installing & wiring.

However last time I took my car to the local garage to get them to check & reset a fault code it cost me £60 for 'Fault checking and the tool' or words to that effect. Anyway if it costs this much again I may as well get a garage to install it for me! A mate told me I could probably get a lead off ebay, but the only way I see is by using RossTech's VCDS software which seems a bit steep for the odd tinker (you can reset service intervals without so why bother!?)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I wonder what other people do if they get a fault code/want access to ECU?

Cheers.

i use vcds lite witch is the free version from rosstech not used it on a skoda yet but works great on my passat and a4 for fault code reading/clearing buts thats all u can do really

on a couple vw/audi forums im on there is a vagcom map (members with full vag-com) that can do things to your car not spotted weather this forum has this, might be worth asking in wanted section see if any one local to you has the full vagcom (vcds) and wants some beer tokens

I use the torque app on android to read and clear faults. I can send u a free link to the app. All u need is a bluetooth adapter

You would need the registered version of VCDS lite together with a cheap cable (£20 or less from eBay) to activate CC. Or there is a list of people on here who have full VCDS who could help you. Look in the diagnostics/VCDS forum on here.

I didn't even see the diagnostics forum! Very helpful everyone. As the registered version of VCDS lite seems to be free then I can't go wrong spending £6.69 on a VAG cable! Sure it will be useful some other time too. Cheers!
