Hi All,

I am hoping someone can advise me.

Just bought a Skoda and very please with it. Registered 2011 (Feb)

I am trying to work with the sat nav (columbus) and after reading many of the topics i am sure that the issues with the Maps & POI Speed cameras can be addressed.

BUT i am on an old version of the firmware (i guess) as i can't find out what it is.

When i hold the setup button for 15 secs it loads up a the FM/AM radio setup. Holding the setup for longer has no effect.

Even with a forced reboot (<>I) of the columbus system

Adding POI via the SD card doesn't work - which again implies an older F/W version.

I am import music and destinations OK so i know it is being read OK.

I note there is the possibility of battery drain if the wrong firmware patch is applied.

Can anyone advise the following:

- is there a trick i am missing for detecting the s/w + f/w versions?

- what firmware patch should used if i can't find out what i am on?

- are there more than one source of both f/m + maps +poi that is reliable?

- will this be compatible with the latest v10 s/w + POI + Speed camera etc.

Note i don't have any recovery disc provided with the original sat nav so currently don't have a back door to down date back to.

Sorry if these have been asked already but have spent some time trying to find out without raising another range of questions.

All the best

Paul.

Bump as was in wrong section, any ideas anyone?

First establish the factory part number which is on the white sticker on the Columbus casing.

It'll probably start 3T0...

We can go from there when that is established.

Hi Aerialman,

You sound like you are in the same position as me - I seem to have an older unit in my Superb that only does 5 digit postcodes, and holding down the "Setup" key doesn't work for me either.

I haven't done any of the following yet - but these are my notes on the subject gleened from thos great forum

Upgrading Columbus firmware and maps :

BURN firmware / maps to disk, do not copy it

Posted 27 December 2013 - 21:37 version 10 (of maps) doesnt work on superb columbus, only V9 works :(

For Older Columbus units (which yours probably is} use firmware 4120 from http://www.rnsfirmware.com  999smiler

There is a paper label on the side of the unit but you have to remove the decal and pull the unit out a little to see it.
It may be that there is a much newer level of firmware that you could install but exact details would be needed to make a recommendation.

Also, older Columbus's can only be updated using DVDs, not SDs or SDHCs. V9 maps is latest that can be used with firmware 4120 (I think)

Stupotpat: just wondering where you saw that v9 was the highest maps you could go up to on older firmware please?

I have V10 in my 2010 but struggling to copy it to the hard drive.

Hello to all Briskoda members.

I wish to share my own bad experience about RNS 510.

Last week I tried to use a SD kard on my Columbus system and I got error.

I was at the main dealer in town and get answer that I need to do a firmware to use that option and that will cost my

350 pounds. My heart stop for a moment  an I decide to do that by myself.

I start to read  about that ,download software ,burn and install.

So,this week i throw to garbage around 5 DVD's and 8 CD's

Now my car don't have any sound and no MFD setup..

In the beginning was just the main menu screen available in a red color, nothing more.

After 3 days of installing and reinstalling different firmware I get bak to original version, the system seems like being right installed.

But...

The screen pop-up and ask me to enter the code.I was so happy!!!!!

Surprise, touch screen seems not to work at all.

And today I spend 9 full hours in my car, with my laptop in my arms trying to figure out what to do. :punch:

I go back in the house and I open a beer.

The worst experience  was to drive every day at work and back without any music, news or .... :@

The motorway sound it is scary. Here, a lot of people use tires with studs,so think at the street noise. :wall:

I am a proud owner of a Octavia 2, 06/2008, 2,0Tdi, DSG automate gear case.

RNS system is:

1Z0 035 680 A

HW 04

SW 1004

HW radio 0003

So now I am thinking to buy a new system, because on Easter time I will drive to Germany and I can't figure myself

driving 2000 km without music.

If someone can help me to fix that I will be so happy.

Excuse my bad English language.

I had a similar issue with the identical unit. Basically the firmware update crashed halfway through and left me with same behaviour as yours. Essentially the gateway can no longer communicate with the unit so it cant retrieve the code from the cluster or send commands to the MFD.

Now you will probably find that trying any other update will fail as you will need the touchscreen at some stage but nevertheless it is still worth trying the 4020 option specifically for older European units at www.rnsfirmware.com.

You will need to reinstall maps and music if it works, but it could be a cheap repair. In my case the corrupted software and subsequent lack of touchscreen meant I couldn't install this so I found a company who could flash the firmware using a computer. In total including a map update it cost me £102 plus courier costs each way so I was pretty happy. They are called hazzydayz (www.hazzydayz.com) and very helpful. They may well courier to Norway.
