I wasnt too sure its too dark and cold to check now.

I do not remember being giving the key for these locks, also when you look at the wheel nuts do each of them cover with a plastic cap? There are some for sale on ebay, just not sure whether I have them or not!

The key is in the boot, yes there should be plastic caps on the wheel nuts.

My dealer made a big deal out of showing me where the key was kept to unlock the wheel nuts. He said that from past experience people would lose them and then complain to them they never received it in the first place...

Indeed they do come standard -- but I would suggest to everyone - BIN THEM - they are totally NOT secure -- you would not believe how easy they are to get off -- with 1 very simple to get hold of - non specialist tool.

My advice to invest in set of Mcgard locking nuts -- thatcham 1 approval -- available from Halfords or Demon-Tweeks and similar outlet's.

The above applies even more if you fit non-standard wheels -- as they are more likely to be stolen!

Yes locking nuts are a deterent to an opportunist thief, anybody that want's your alloys is going to get them! BMW alloys are highly saught after and from what I have read a number of gangs have sets of the locking nut's keys to try and get them off! A number of cars also come with 2 or 3 locking wheel nuts mainly as an extra time delay. What Car magazine tested alloys resistance a few years back and found that some wheels can be off in 16 secs each! Audi TT faired badly if I remember rightly!

For Audi TT -- read the entire VAG vehicle range -- they all use the same design, albeit in different sizes.

the bottom line is they are crap -- so much so Audi has actually stopped fitting them at the factory!

Audi(UK) now pay dealers to install them at PDI.

The number of times we've been asked "Can we borrow your master set,I can't get my wheels off" is no-ones business -- they get stock reply - bring it down we'll do it for you.

Very helpful if the car is parked in the middle of nowhere with a flat tyre... :(

Thats what the AA cover is for :D

As for the nuts being crap, maybe, but if anyone can get a wheel off my car before the alarm screams blue murder, they deserve it :D

is that a challenge geoff ?

Dont forget Big_K has got Very Big Hammer

Denis -- We would not leave one of our customer's stranded -- but if we didn't know you - TOUGH! shouldnt have lost it in the first place, and as was said -- that's what the roadside cover is for.

Well at least you have a master set - my dealer was going to chisel them off .... I did it myself in the end - the key for the 928 nuts was similar so with a little drilling out of the holes it did the job.

hahaha, i should have expected that..

But trust me, if anyone gets near the car without tripping the proximity sensor, then i doubt they could lift it without getting a good dose of "weee waaaa's" :)
