Urgh, having a black car is horrendous, I almost regret as much as I did proposing to SWMBO. :(

  • Never again.   They do look good for the first 10 min after you've waxed them as long as you don't drive anywhere, or put it outside in a breeze.

  • Worried about cleaning? Fearful that scratches show up easily?           Man paint.

Personally I like the Colinite 476 as a last coat.

It lasts ages and once you've a good treatment of that on you can just wash

and dry the car and it will look pretty good with just that.

I also use Black Hole but never tried the 476, would you say it is better than the 845 Insulator Wax??

i think all you need to do is look at the funeral trade, look at the amount of hearse's and limo's that are silver or grey coloured. as black is so hard to keep clean looking. you can coat the black paint all you want and have an amazing polish/finish, once a bit of dirt gets on it, it looks awful.

I've not used the 845 so can't really comment on that.

When I'm doing a proper clean I do

1. Snowfoam

2. Tardis.

3. Claybar

4. Hand wash (x2 if needed then dry thoroughly)

5. Black hole

6. Nattys blue paste wax

7. Colinite 476

8. Chemical Guys Pro detailer to remove any white over applied wax.

I'm hoping to give my Audi a go in the next few weeks after it has its

cambelt service and whatnot. Assuming I have a dry day or two to do it. :rain:  :rain:  :rain:

About the same

My last 4 cars were black, I just have to have Black cars these days as they are faster than other colours.    Yes, they do show dirt more than any other colour but when you give them a thorough clean there is no better colour to give the deep shiny look.

Amen!

On my 4th Black Magic, I'm a glutton for punishment!

Critical is paintwork prep and detailing, no doubt. Proper detail, polished sealed and waxed makes maintenance washes and awful lot easier and the car doesn't get as dirty.

Bad points; as mentioned swirls are more obvious but sort the above and a proper cleaning regime and its not a problem. General marks and stone chips can be more obvious though.

Water marks will depend on the area and water hardness/softness. I don't get them here, but always dry and QD the car anyway.

This was my black bora . The reword you get from cleaning a black car is epic . But ! like most say it's short lived az a couple of hours later it will look dirty again ! Guaranteed

Does anyone have pictures of black cars that haven't been cleaned?

Sometimes it's  pain, but other times so long as you keep on top of keeping it dry after a wash then it's fine. Looks great too, well mines not black but Mocca Brown it's close. I do see a few swirls but as others have said if you buy a good polish/ wax it's easy to make it less obvious.

The previous owners have ruined the paint on this one (the dreaded putting a box on the roof before opening the door is evident on mine... time to get some touch up!)

(this was using Black Hole glaze as part of the detail - bloody awesome stuff and works so, so well with Black Magic)

As for unclean photos - not really, no reason to take a photo! ;) - might have a few of the Fabias somewhere - camping trips, rally stages and B-road blasts etc.

Might aswell

And some of Xav's on here, from a while ago. I'm sure he won't mind me posting them.

Washed mine again today and it looked great... it's now dirty again after driving through a muddy puddle. I wish cars could tip toe. :(

Not one that big and heavy Leon! Not a chance :D

I'd swear blind yours was a British Racing Green Leon, looking at that shot! Must have been the camera's metering, plus underground carpark.

Very weird!

I do wonder how such such a large car can drive so well sometimes. This thread got me thinking on the drive back today that I don't think I'd ever be happy with silver, it does look nice but never has a high gloss shine, unless it's in a car park or showroom. Storm Blue was also a pain to keep clean but it looked epic in the sun.

I see what you mean, maybe its the brown on brown and the camera with the artificial lights. it's definitely brown! Although it never ever looks the same whenever I take a photo of it!

Silver looks terrible polished up

You do it and its like i just wasted an hour of my life. Makes no difference.

But if you can't be assed it hides most things and looks clean for longer

No pain, no gain - it's the general rule with car colours. Those that are more difficult to keep, look best when clean

Silver can be made to shine, or to enhance the gloss. One or the other :) But yes, not as satisfying as a darker colour.
