VRS PETROL serviced as a DIESEL?

Featured Replies

Strange one! I took my 2010 VRS Hatch to a Skoda main dealer today for a minor oil service. When the tech gave me the bill, he told me I needed a new Cam Belt in June, and quoted a price. I pointed out to him that this seemed fairly unlikely, what with my car not having a cam belt and all, to which he said 'it's a diesel, isn't it?' Initially relieved that I didn't have a big bill coming, now I am home, I need to know if they thought it was a diesel would the oil be different from what they should have put in? I've no mechanical knowledge, do the two engines use the same oil viscocities? Can someone with better knowledge advise me please? :/

You would have thought the guy doing it would spot a petrol engine with TSI written on the cover in big letters!!!  :)

A skoda tech doesnt know the difference between a petrol & diesel vrs............................ :giggle:

They use the same oil.

And people insist keeping it serviced by the 'dealer' is best. FPMSL.

Thanks JRW, I feel much happier!

I am sure I am doing them a great disservice, and it was probably just an oversight by the guy putting the bill together.  Otherwise the service was actually very good!

Obviously the tech doing the work would have known/noticed - this is just an admin error by the chump on the desk.

The diesel uses VW 507.00 long life / low ash oil for both fixed (minor) and variable (major) services due to the DPF.

If the petrol is on fixed rather than variable servicing I thought you could use a different oil, such as VW 504.00?

Not that it matters, if he thought it was a diesel then he's used the highest spec VW 507.00 oil.

Yes you can use the cheaper oil if you're on fixed but most people just put in 507 anyway.

507 is the top grade for diesel engine oil as 504 is the grade for petrol engines. However, the oil in the tin usually meets BOTH standards. So the sane oil gets used no matter which fuel it uses.
