That unfortunately means little nowadays, you need to check the VW50?.?? number on the back of the bottle.

I'll have a look when I am next in the store.

What should the VW50 number be?

You are looking for either VW504.00 or VW507.00

Thanks very much - just nipped over to Wilko - they had sold out so we may never know if it was a good deal or not!

I'm taking mine back to the dealer if it needs a top up and he'll give me another bottle if by some chance I can't get there. That's what he's promised anyway. I'm sure I can trust a salesman

Asda had 4 litre bottles on offer yesterday for £22. The offers don't last long & it might be just local store, but worth a look if you are doing shopping at Asda.

It is the correct VW code shown for my petrol Octy 3.

Thanks  for all the comments the detail is in the manual, and they recommend VW504 - the bottle I bought from Halfords is VW503 - so I will look around for the right oil. Now, back to the football!

My petrol has done over 4,000 miles and no problem with oil use as of yet.
