Heated rear screen, problem or normal?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, whilst defrosting this morning I noticed that the upper 3 elements on my rear window (hatch) aren't working, these are the three that cross the mid high brake light.

Is this normal or do I need to book her in for some warranty work?

Andy

So, should they or shouldn't they work? Mine is in at the dealers on Monday for this problem, stop start error, DAB not displaying World Service OTA logo, some damaged trim following the dash removal, noisy fuel pump, rattles from B Pillar trim and passenger seat height adjuster. So by Tuesday I should know if they are supposed to work or not.

Oh and the fuel filler flap opening if you shut the boot hard.

Bloody hell Andy that's a bit of a list!

They must be the radio antenna, the combi has them in the rear quarter windows so the hatch only has the option of putting them in the rear window.  I once had an '08 Civic Type R that had the antenna wires across the top of the rear window so i'm assuming the O3 hatch is the same....

I feel your  pain andy. Must be something about the name .. as my list is growing (albeit not as much!) really highlights why I don't want issues investigated if it means exacerbation. Catch 22 as it all needs sorting!

Spoken with Skoda UK, can confirm the top 3 elements are the aerial.

Andy

I agree, they must be an aerial because they are not connected to the other window heating elements

But he also like to contradict things other people post too :D

Can you actually see this area of the rear screen from the drivers seat?

Perhaps they've been listening to Heat Radio ...  :giggle:

Nope, but when it is frosty the high level brake light is still covered in frost/ice, which seems an oversight.

I suspect the brake light will still shine through adequately though.

No doubt it will, but this is the first hatch I have had for over 10 years. The last few have been 4x4, MPV or estate. The high level brake light has either been external, or behind a heated part of the screen.
