Roof Wrap - Done & Now with TINTS :)

What do they do with the edge of the material once installed? Front and back of the roof I understand is wrapped around by the window, but what about the sides? Is it possible for water to get underneath, or even catch the edge with a fingernail and potentially damage the wrap?

Sides is wrapped up to the groove in the roof. Its finished really well and no way of catching either. Just been told not to use a pressure washer anywhere near the sides as that would lift it. Will try and post some more pictures this weekend.

  • I'm looking at having my Candy White vRS Estate done shortly.  I think I'm going for the 3M metallic black vinyl, with some clear stuff on the top of the rear bumper.

Thanks. Expected this was the case, and was concerned about pressure washer/strong hose and water ingress. The grooves are there to channel rain water, so still concerned that over time the wrap may lift.

Looks awesome mate - gloss black seems the way to go I think!

Is everyone else happy with this concept? Maybe if you have bought a second hand car and dislike the colour, but to shrink wrap parts of a new car seems a little bizarre to me.

It reminds me a bit of the mid 70s fashion for vinyl roofs - maybe this will come back!

Can you please upload some pictures of your cool looking car with wrapped roof? I'm really thinking about to do the same, but not sure if I should go with the whole roof or 2/3 like pano roof is. Any ideas?

Some pics for you

Man that looks the business! Very classy and gloss black alloys against the white is my favourite combo.

If anyone's interested in this still, drop me a pm, I've been a pro vehicle wrapper for over 6yrs now wrapping anything from, speedboats, and ferraris to Vespas and Bugatti veyrons, I only use 3m and avery supreme, both come with a 3+ year warranty against vinyl failure if fitted by a 3m approved/avery approved fitter, which I am ;)

You can jet wash vinyl, just don't get within 60cm of it with the nozle or you will damage it, the vinyl can easily be removed using heat, and will leave no residue if removed properly. Your paint will be protected and if fitted correctly won't leave a spec of damage. For those of you who enjoy cleaning your car and polishing it too, you can polish and wax the gloss vinyls much the same way you can paint and still see good results.

I must stress, for people thinking about this on an older vehicle, paint damage such as lacquer peel or lacquer edges will lift when vinyls is applied, or removed, this is normally down to quick repairs, but there should be no such problems with new vehicle or standard oem paint.

Also, for the guys with the estates, in an ideal world we'd remove the roof bars, from the pictures I've seen the bars seem to be mounted directly into the roof, and would need to be removed to achieve the best result, I can do this and have removed many bars across many makes of cars, it normally requires the removal of the pillar trims, and associated parts like roof handles and sun visors etc. jon

My mk2 fully wrapped in cherry matt if anyone's interested.

Jon.

Jon, your suspension appears to have collapsed, mate ;)

How much would you charge for doing an O3 estate roof in gloss black, without removing the bars?

Haha, the suspension is just fine I assure you lol ;)

Honestly mate, I wouldn't attempt it without removing the bars, you won't get the result you want and you risk damaging paint having no option than to trim around the feet of the roof bars.

Jon

If anyone's interested just drop me a pm. :)

Love it, think the black goes with Meteor Grey so well.

I would have it but with the pan sun there's only a little bit to wrap!

How hard are the roof bars to remove? any guides? Brother in law is a signwriter and has offered to wrap the roof in whatever I want for the cost of materials alone (and like the other poster, pretty much 3M only). I was thinking a carbon fibre look wrap (on a candy white estate), and he said he can do the mirrors at the same time.

Removing roof bars is a big no no, you need to remove the interior headlining etc. a nightmare task.

Anybody wrapped a Candy White Estate roof yet? When mine comes I'm thinking of filling in around the pano roof but can't decide what to do with the spoiler.

Reckon it's worth doing with all that glass? I have a combi with a pan sun and wasn't sure.

Deffo, do this alot on evoques with the pan roof, ties the glass into the surrounding roof alot better. Roof bars wont be too difficult to remove, it will normally involve the removal of the pillar trims and roof handles to gain access to the bolts, be careful of pillar airbags!!!

Just wondering... do people bother informing insurance about these kind of changes?

Those that do, has it ever had an impact (£)?

I have a race blue VRS hatch on order and opted for the sunroof, which has a full width black surround but only goes back to just above the rear doors.

I'm going to have the remainder of the roof black wrapped to match the sunroof surround.

Just got the wait for it to arrive (build week 11, w/c 16th March)

That looks like a mk2 as the mk3 only attaches at each end. I've not looked at mine closely so don't know if it fixes from above or below though

Pick my Octy up tomorrow morning so have nothing to go on. The link ......partsbase.org/skoda/octavia-oct-eu-2013-85330-roof-rail-moldings-roof....... seems to suggest an 03 by the year designation. If the 02 ceased production in 2012/13? they were a little late in getting their parts list out!

Not wrapping mine but came across this link while trying to find out how to remove the luggage side panels in the estate.
