Screen Washers (again!)

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the screen washers on the Octy can actually be adjusted - mine are totally useless :(

The dealer has said a big "no" - they can be replaced but I could end up with a worse spray than I have now (if thats possible!)

Also, the rear wiper is pretty c@#p too - although the eyes can be adjusted, the upper one gives very little pressure and the lower one just pours the water off the back of the car on the first sweep!

Anyone know if the new "smoothy" rear wiper design has a better wash???

Num

No, they can't be angled. Takes some getting used to, but I find my front ones are pretty effective. The back one is a bit different as I've got the hatch - is your rear jet on the wiper or the boot itself? Seem to recall this was something changed at facelift...

I have always found the cars to have a very good washers. I particularly like the front spray in the Octavia and Fabia and I don't see how it would need ajusting. The rear in the Fabia is rubbish with it being blasted at one point but the Octavia's is superb with it being on the wiper. I fine the sprays on other cars a bit feeble. My mate has a Punto and last winder going down the motorway it was very hard to see as all the salt had resulted in a very dirty windscreen and the spray only cleaned a few points.

can't say i had any probs in my RS with the fronts - i really liked the spray thing.

Best washer/wiper combination I've had - front and back.

Going back to Mrs Fen's Mondeo seems like the dark ages.

Always impressed with the misting of the front washers - does exactly what it should IMHO. The rear washer in the Fabia is a bit rubbish as you can't get the water up high enough before it gets wiped off.

But then I rarely need to use the rear washer... I just wipe every now and then when it rains. :) Oh, and wash it with the hose/brush regularly.

I had an internal 'clip' vanish from inside one of the front jets which made is absolutely useless until my dealer fitted a new jet - apart from that, I think they work really well.

J - the secret to using the rear wiper is to time your sprays so that they hit the glass just before the wiper gets to twelve o'clock - it then smears the water around quite nicely... :D

Front washers great, fine mist, removes splashed up dirt.

Rear washer great, "pools" slightly on screen to remove road grime (estate).

Headlamp washers excellent, big spray, used with all the above to good effect to remove stubborn tailgaters.

It's on the rear wiper Rob.

With all the positive responses, I think I'll push for replacemnts under warranty.

Cheers for the replies peeps.

And smarmy cabrio drivers - takes me back to one of my first posts! Nostalgia for a Friday afternoon.

Well, numskull , the fronts can be adjusted! I don't know what's exactly your problem, but in mine they were aiming too high. I have to pry them in the front side (front I mean towards the front of the car) and in the little space I had, I pured some hot glue. When it was hardened, I had 1mm leverage in the front of the jets and that's enough to spray aprox in the middle of the windshield. Two years later, no problem (ok, we don't have the rain you do... )

My RS had hopeless front washers when I first got it -the jet hit the rear edge of the bonnet. the dealer replaced the scuttle panel, which helped a lot. The L&K still caught the bonnet a bit, but was bearable.

Headlamp washers were brilliant, but drain the reservoir, if you use 'em a lot -like in the snow, earlier this year.

Phil

If they catch the edge of the bonnet check the scuttle panel is firmly pressed down along the back edge - it pops into a crack in the windscreen seal so needs to be firmly pushed down. Try pressing down along the edge about 1/2" away from the top edge and see if you hear any clicks or pops as it engages. This fixed mine. Really happy with them now.

Hmmm... methinks chip on shoulder?

For info, provided your doing above about 20mph you won't get wet in a cabrio (don't in an MX 5 anyway!) but it is amusing how many people try with the washers!:D
