1st day as a new mk3 owner

Featured Replies

Well it's done. I traded in my 59 plate yeti 1.2 se for a 13 plate octavia 1.4 se estate. I got 9k for the yeti with 41k miles on the clock which surprised me. The step up in interior quality is great. The extra power is welcome although I haven't tried the different driving modes yet. The bolero menus are confusing. It's taking some getting used to. One question, I thought the bolero had a 6 disc cd changer as standard.

Is it not built in to the head unit? Just one disc after another ...dont have 1 but radio manual should say.

Enjoy the car..

Enjoy your new family car!

Yes the cd unit is in the glove box. I was looking for the display showing 5 empty slots but it didn't. I didn't want to try and ram another disc in and knacker it. I'm so chuffed there is a spare wheel in this too.

Just a single CD in this one, no big deal though. I can't even remember the las time I listened to music off a CD....

Yep likewise, rip my CD's to a SD card. I got a new one of a PC supplier I use, 32gb for £7.50 with free delivery on offer a week or so back.

I have getting close to 90Cd's on the card, ripped at max MP3 quality, and have only taken up about 12gb.

I've never ripped music to an sd card. I haven't got a clue what to do. I've always been a cd man. I'll have to give it a try. I did try and hook up my galaxy 4 via bluetooth today but it won't.

Unless something on your galaxy 4 is amiss, it should have hooked up fine. I was concerned my new phone had kit kat installed and there had been issues reported, but no, it hooked up straight away (the dealer did it on collection).

If you run a PC with Windows XP onwards (might be before too, but not sure), you can rip direct to your hard drive using the windows media player. You can determine settings in media player before you rip.

Once that's done, just copy the folders over to the SD card and if media player also found the album art while ripping, you will get that on the screen too :)

(presuming you have an SD card reader on your PC).

It sounds like you had a great deal on your yeti and now you have a great car. As others have said, Bluetooth and SD cards are much better than CDs and will make for a much tidier car inside.  If Google doesn't show you clearly how to do both, perhaps you know a 14 year old who'd show you?

Enjoy your car knowing that it can only get better once you've mastered the audio.

Rip to FLAC instead as this is better quality than MP3.  Downside is the file size is slightly more but on a 32gb> sd cards thats still tons of albums.

I considered that, but as most of them were already ripped as MP3's ... and I wasn't sure if Bolero could play FLAC.

Not sure that the average listener would notice a difference on a bolero to be honest.

Can I just copy my iTunes collection from the relevant folder on my pc to an SD card? I trust the Bolero will play AAC files?

What class and spec SD card is best? Dies it need to be formatted in a specific way?

Does anyone stream, from Spotify, GMusic etc., straight to their Bolero/Amundsen/Columbus?

Can this be done?

I have Napster, would be bloody useful if so. Any ideas anyone?

I tested it on demo car - it worked.

Streaming from Spotify is no problem!

Great news!

How would you go about doing this? Through your phone and it's 3/4G signal?

Not very tech savvy, so ignore the stupid questions.....

That's how I plan on doing it, when I get my car. GMusic is very good at forward caching (storing the next track or tracks in memory) which smooths out the dead spots. Spotify is reasonably good at this too.

I use Google Play Music on my Columbus. It will only play the playlist or album I currently have selected and I've found it best to 'pin' a few favourite albums to save them to my Nexus 5 and switch to 'On device' mode on the phone to save on data usage. It works fine. I've not tried SD, USB or CD yet.

This is promising. My regular commute by train has several dead spots yet the music, from Google Play Music, never pauses even though I don't save locally. It even works on the London Underground, with the wifi at each station being enough to keep it going. Given all that, I reckon it should all work nicely in the car.

I don't worry about data saving as I have an all you can eat plan from Three.

i tunes to SD. I make sure all my music on iTunes is in MP3 form. Transfer what I want to a folder on my PC as albums

I always have a copy in case the SD card dies. Then put these on the card. 32gb card is a good size. Used in current Octy for almost 4 yrs. I also have 3 mp3 format CD's that I use in my multi disc player, but have also put these on the same card ready for my new car... These compilation s are what I use most in mix mode, like a radio without the DJ rabbiting on.

Andy P,

Hope your head has stopped spinning, with all this tech speak "HELP".

Enjoy the motor, with the CD playing and progress the technology at your own pace.

I plan on using the USB rather than SD card ... is there a size limit for USB flash memory ?

I got in the car this morning to drive to work and whilst steering out of my drive I heard several beeps coming from the bolero, like I'd pressed the screen, then driving down the road it bleeped again and my radio changed to another station. I don't know why. I just turned it off and carried on to work. I'll see how it goes.
