Ageed Geoff , but I do know someone who had an answer for this when only the Gatso existed ...............if for example his reg number was T376 MWP , what he would do was to have the rear plate made up as T367 MWP or T376 WMP , which you perhaps wouldn't notice under normal circumstances but would confuse the hell out of the police and resulted in someone else receiving the speeding ticket .:D

Re the UK cameras, last year an Aston was clocked at 160 on the M20 coming back from the Cannonball, dont know what the outcome was but it cant have been good.

The event isnt a race & the winner is the person who gets closest to the overall average speed that was achieved on the dry runs which is still suprisingly high.

The Start should be good to see as their will be some Interesting cars & there are always a few people trying to impress with their starts

So you will definitely bring the Skud instead of a loaner, Stuart?

  • Author

Yep,

Skud it will be

Go on then and defend our honour! :D

I always thought the cannonball was the ultimate in road races.

Howcome we dont see many turbo charged m powered 3's?

Was the M1 turbocharged?

Last post for the day - here's the latest on the Quote Challenge, a Dutch Cannonball copy with an entry very similar in style to the one mentioned by Stuart in the thread-starting post.

First stage result: SKODA WINS!!! :D

http://www.quotenet.nl/home/Quote/ArticleDetail.aspx?pageID=100&topicID=7&articleID=18176

The stage was won by a chipped Superb TDI PD 130 with a fuel tank enlarged to 150 litres. It just never stopped!

150 litre tank. Nice that would do about 1500 miles. Just standing about filling it up might be a problem! :p

I noticed on the website for cannonball run europe it doesnt mention anything about the cash prize for 1st place? is isnt there one?

I really want to go!

  • Author

Last year the prize was free entry to this years Cannonball + a F'ing Great trophy which you could keep (if you could lift it !) Although it did actually get nicked at the final party but it was returned a few days later.

As for this year I dont know what the prize is

stuart

I'm trying to come and wave you lot of at the start... Should make a nice day for Q-jr methinks...

Quentin

Should be a great day out for the "kids of all ages" if last year was anything to go by. The cars this year are a wide selection of models, there is even someone going in an American Police car complete with all the lights etc although personaly at about 14 mpg & having to drive it through North Africa with their hatred of America they must be mad

Cars will start at 1 minute intervals & there are always a few people who run a "who can waste the most rubber " competition

All stages completed now - and the winner is...

(THE) SUPERB!

Have a look at the happy winning crew: www.quotechallenge.nl (the guy with hair is my dealer).

  • Author

Dutch, does this mean I will have to try & win, I was hoping to just enjoy myself, out of interest can you get a copy of the entry list so I can post it on the Cannonball website to "SCARE" them

Stuart

Well Guys its 4 days to the start & I'm just begining to get a tadge over excited, in fact I cant wait !! Doing a bit of filming on Thursday night in the Horsham area, they wanted some slower shots so should be able to get in those, then its Friday to pack the car & 9 AM Saturday at Sherboune Castle for booking in & then its off to Morroco.

It apears the entry of the Hummer may not be just a rumour. I believe they do about 75 flat out & average something like 6 mpg.

So 3000 miles at 6mpg = 500 gallons of fuel = " I bet he wishes it was Diesel" .... Hes Barking Mad

The board of directors has finally confirmed that the royal family will make an appearance too. Will come and say hi if I can drag Q-jr away from the Ferraris, etc... ;)
