Superb Xeon Continental Conversion Dealer Job?

Featured Replies

If they needed lots of power you'd have to have a bigger alternator to feed them and so on.

Volts x Amps = Watts

must have been 35Kvolts then.....I thought it was a large amount of something.

Indeed - to get 35kw at 12 volts would need some serious cables, and not a bigger alternator, but a big generator on a trailer

...........Or a second engine in the boot! 35Kv sounds about right, to strike a Xenon light.

I used to have to set up the HT supplies on colour monitors at 15Kv -hated that job. you ALWAYS kept one hand in your pocket.

Phil

Nicks post about needing bigger alternators raises an interesting point.

With all the electronics and electrical equipment on modern cars, particularly high spec executive cars, the limit is being reached on how much power a 12volt sytem can generate, so it won't be that long before we start to see 48volt and higher, poss 72 volt electrical systems in top end/executive cars.

BOSCh have said that they will have to shelve plans for full prodcution brake-by-wire & steer-by-wire -- as they redundant systems as per planes for safety -- as these systems are designed to use 48V -- I think it is likely to be a while before we 70/80v systems -- soddit they may as well go 240v!

at least you could watch the telly in climate control comfort

But as many have said -- the Pro's out weigh the Con's when it comes to Xenon -- and even better if you have Bi-Xenon -- they are out of this world, both for light output and beam pattern / length -- they can't be beat -- untill the LED technology that's currently being worked on comes on scene that is.

Which wont be long so then xenons will be an expensive mistake for those with them.

Tis true -- but having said that they will have had the benefit of the better lights in the meantime.

The LED technology is looking mighty impressive -- the new A8 has LED rear lights, like some new BMW's -- they have a little sensor fitted - so when they get dirty - the increase the intensity of the light to compensate.

Also with front light's - these will be integrated into other system's on the car - like the sat-nav,the car will know what type of road it's on and adjust accordingly -- so nice wide pattern on country roads - nice long focal length on sweepy motorways etc

And wash the laundry on the way to work and dry it on the way back! What's more, Rob will be able to have a larger fridge in his boot.

Just think how much easier it would be for the ICE -- no need for expensive intalls -- just take your PC stacked full of MP3's :D

And Jon could use a power shower for water injection instead of an expensive bit of kit designed specifically for a car....

The more I think about it, the more exciting 240V looks!! Eg non-LK owners could use heated underblankets for heated seats; and owners without air con could just bung a portable air conditioning unit into their car boot etc etc

You know it makes sense......

Why not just have a factory fit tow bar so that we can all just tow a generator and search light similar to those used in the 2 WW?

At least you wont get the seats wet with the washing.

What?

Hmmm. So, summing up this madness we have:

- a towbar and a generator behind

- a CD stack system on the passenger seat

- a full size fridge in the boot

- a power shower under the bonnet

- a washer (/dryer) on the back seat

A veritable kitchen on wheels!

And, of course, "You know it makes sense" from my mate Dave!

 Just proves imagination isn't dead

There's something missing... Oh, yes, a microwave in in the centre console :D

I think I better amend the spec sheet for the Briskoda Octavia

Nah, just rename it Toerag or something... :D

Now, what about these xenon lights!!

John.

Would have liked xenons but they weren't an option when I got my Octy (despite all the brochures showing them.....conti car:rolleyes: ).

Just changed my H4 bulbs to Philips Ultra Blue Vision....nice blue/white light.... got some side lights included (free). Has that HID look now.

Want to get some Silver Vision indicator bulbs next....gosh I'm such a tart!;)

I've already got them, thanks! :D

I would be interested to find out if we could get protectors that wouldn't cause the lamps to overheat. If only to use abroad even.

Howard, they're gas discharge lights mate, go find a nice Sodium floodlight and put your hand on the lens (joking, DON'T do it lol)...that will answer your question.

They just run far too hot for anything to be in close contact.

Just to give a commonly known example...

Ever see the floodights the dodgy crowd use for growing Cannabis plants? (they put out a LOT of heat)...they work on pretty much the same principle.

Hey, Thanks Geoff,

Thats given me an idea for when my cars parked up at night!!
