I thought you said you could get insured on it through your dad's insurance?

I can but it's not practical driving a track stripped Skoda about as a daily that was never the plan! It was only ever going to be a track car which isn't financially sensible

Not quite as easy as just saying it :(

Bare with the project thread as at my new place of work there is a recovery truck :)

You're not that far into it, so surely it wouldn't be that difficult to change direction a little at this point in time?

Replacement doors and bootlid but that wasn't what I was getting at! That insurance would only be over temporary periods and at 17 it's a PITA to run any car that's standard let alone modified! I've been chatting to someone who runs a track car up hill climbs as well so there might end up being more uses for it

Just been out to the car and realised I'd forgotten just how many boxes of Fabia parts are stacked inside, need to get rid of all of that and then start to cut bits of metal out of the car :)

Edit - also got to remove the new exhaust on it, does anyone know if I can keep the old driveshafts or is it new ones from a Ibiza

Agrees you've got to be able to use it on the road IMO, not many of us can afford a track only car..... Just think about what you want from it and base your plans from there. I'd go for a mixture of good on the road but not too shabby on the track. :) That way you have the best of both worlds!

The problem is that he did the easy stuff first, taking the interior out and stripping it.

This project is not even 10% done yet.

Jack should have done the engine swap and got it running and driving first as that's the major hurdle.

Then there would have been time to think about what the car will be used for.

Unbolting stuff is easy, it's getting it together and running that's the tricky bit.

Track days cost money and most people are limited to a few per year, so it makes no sense in having a track only car that's not road legal.

Absolutely spot on! I've done things the wrong way around, I went at it like a bull in a china shop but I will finish it!

Edit - To get it road legal :

Keep ABS

Refit Passenger Airbag

Put Seats on Adjustable Frame

Keep Original Steering Wheel

Allow doors to open

Fit engine?

Few years mate ;) I've been looking into a few other purposes I could also use the Fabia for which reduces how stupid my idea is slightly

It's not a stupid idea just a looong project

Two straight swaps - Polo GTI and an Ibiza FR

And one that would be of naff all use! (octy)

LOL you nutcase. I'm currently working out what is better financially or time wise either breaking my Ibiza or selling as whole, but taking off certain parts that I can recoup some £.

If it does end up being broken I'll take quite a bit off your hands :)

As those items would be the main reason of getting a donor

You Have PM

The Ibiza of Mr Saint is a diesel, so you'll still need plenty of bits and bobs from a 1.8t car to make it work.

Just for info. :)

Yeah I know my main parts to look at were going to be the Rear beam inc Brakes, does anyone know if the RARB will fit and also if the front Subframe is just a straight transfer?

The only other bits I'll need is another engine inc ecu etc with mounts and an Exhaust if I end up with parts from his!

Edit - and driveshafts

does the 1.2 have an exhaust at the front or rear of the engine bay? if its on the front you will definately need to change it, this is because the subframe has an arch in it to clear the exhaust pipe (as it needs to travel under the sump then under the subframe), where as those such as the 1.4 8V with the exhaust on the rear of the engine bay (IIRC the 1.8T is like this) the down pipe travels inbetween the subframe and the bulk head.

the RARB bolts onto the rear suspension strut mountings so if you fit the Ibiza FR rear beam it the RARB will fit.

Yeah the 1.2 exhaust goes to the front of the car! Right so there might end up with something happening when I get all these bits off! You could go and get yourself a steering rack from him if he breaks it ;)
