Long time no update!

I haven't really done much as simply put I don't think it needs much doing exterior wise bar a Cup spoiler and lowering :)

Today however I had a good friend come over and we detailed his CTR EP3 and my car. Finished it with some of his HD wax which has beaded lovely :)

Happy with the finish :D

I peeled back the rubber gaitor to reveal the connection. This is my first time playing around with steering components properly, they usually go right above my head so it's really really good to learn how they work :)

I then cracked the TRE nut off (16mm for reference). To enable the ball joint to stop spinning I jacked it up so that the weight of the spring acted upon the taper, when this force is equal or more than the force on the taper it stops it from spinning and comes off.

That was all sorted, went for a drive and it's not pulling at all to any one side so looks like my measurement worked. Ideally I will be getting it properly tracked again in the future once I get some new rubber on but i'm glad it's okay for now :)

I then dressed the plastics with AF revive and washed the wheels and sealed them with a third coat of Poorboys wheel sealant. Really happy with how it's turned out now. I really need to take some decent photos in some better places! Apologies for the standard driveway shots.

Yes, that was him. He's coming on the 11th right? It's a shame i'm at work through the day as I would have loved to have got some tips as I really want to machine polish mine soon but i'm not sure if i'm doing it as well as I can. Will have to get him to pass the knowledge on haha

You can always bring yours for an instructional Detail at a later date

Changed the coilpack and leads the other day as it keeps coming up with a misfire on the dash. Seems to drive so much better now, really does purr.

Some pics!

I changed them at 10pm as I got back from the pub and saw the parcel :D Making the most of the garage being empty. Usually filled with dad's mid life crisis ie Boxter S haha

Yup got caught and snapped in the bit that goes on to the spark plug

How did you rate Bram? Seems like a good price.

Thought you were more Leeds than Wakefield, then again I can see why you'd want people to think that :P

My mum/dad originate from that way.

Really decent. Unit is lovely. When they realised I did automotive engineering at Uni the owner pulled out a folding chair for me to watch them do it whilst chatting cars to them which I really appreciated. Rather than being shoved in a waiting room :) Also printed out a load more information for me such as the vehicle wheelbase etc etc as they knew I was an engineer and would be interested.

Where abouts are you from?

Halifax now. Parents are from Normanton/Pontefract, but I never lived in Yorkshire until I came here at 18.

Finally changed my mirror glass. From my picking up the car it had one of those stick on wing mirror glass as the current one was broken. I had absolutely no idea I could just buy the glass replacements from eBay haha. So changed it... realised that this pic is just showing my crotch haha

Jesus it's made such a great difference. The car just feels way more eager, you can now blip the throttle for a revmatch downshift and it just revs instantly. Car idles much better and sets off smoother. Seems to pull much faster now. Really am so happy with it :D It won't have made much power if any at all but it's just made the driveability of the car so much nicer.

rstuner? I'm tempted by this. How much you selling the rstuner for? Assuming it's not already sold. They sell really quick on cliosport.

Yeah buddy! can't recommend it enough! I'm selling it now :) £120 posted i'm after for it man. It's the latest one that does "pops and bangs" apparently. The best thing is, you can just sell it on afterwards and the total sum is £75 for the map and license. Let me know if you want it buddy :)

PM sent :)

Chris, if you read this, Matty tells me you've been singing my praises about the car today, thank you so much for that I really appreciate the kind words :D Hope you and Matt had a great day.

I've got a lovely and boringish update haha but it's something that's been bugging me for a while.

Completely changed the brake discs and pads all around. The discs were worn a lot and just didn't feel confidence inspiring. This coupled in by the fact that the rear o/s wheel bearing was humming at 35mph+ and the bearing being a part of the disc just made sense to change it all.

This was the front.

15023738550_31d20b9cf6_b.jpgDSCN2617 by dann2707, on Flickr

15023846847_69f333213e_b.jpgDSCN2618 by dann2707, on Flickr

I simply undid the two bolts holding the disc on and hit it gently with a soft mallet and it came off :)

15210426615_63fbc6bf52_b.jpgDSCN2619 by dann2707, on Flickr

New vs old

15023851177_429e457a08_b.jpgDSCN2620 by dann2707, on Flickr

New discs on. I went for Brembo HC's as heard they work really well with the clio set up. Lots of copper grease on the hub to prevent the disc seizing on.

15207373591_4d8185e5aa_b.jpgDSCN2621 by dann2707, on Flickr

And then I changed the pads. I went for Mintex M1144's

15023644549_a54420d613_b.jpgDSCN2622 by dann2707, on Flickr

All on

15210050552_3504ec900a_b.jpgDSCN2624 by dann2707, on Flickr

Then two days later (Today) I changed the rears. Started by jacking Boris up.

15023863217_e3da83f5c5_b.jpgDSCN2625 by dann2707, on Flickr

This was the state of the rears. Quite a large lip on the edge of the discm on both the fronts too actually

15023865547_6c4c1ed8e1_b.jpgDSCN2626 by dann2707, on Flickr

17mm nut on the rear of the carrier and it simply comes off allowing changing of the pads. I then undid the 30mm hub nut.

This is the washer that i'd heard so much about, people not re-fitting them back to the new hubs/discs after changing and it giving massive problems afterwards. I made a note of which side up it was when removing.

Well done!!

So when am I polishing it? ;)  B)

And I thought the Celica's rear setup was weird with its disc/drum combo. Crazy Renaults.
