Soooooo today was ****ing awesome! Did my first track day in the Clio (organised by the trials biking forum so it was a closed event to just 12 or so of us)

Absolutely loved it so much and there will be loads of pics later on but for now I had some footage from inside the car. I felt like the car was really decent on track and i'm loving the coilovers so much. They're pretty soft but felt like they handled the abuse really well.

I definitely need more tuition but I wasn't there to set record times, just there for fun and it was exactly that. The main things I had trouble with was wheel spinning out of corners and I imagine that's why people say LSD's make such a difference on track. I just found it hard to be smooth with the throttle and ended up losing quite a bit of time there, along with where to brake but I guess that will all come with time. I felt myself progress through the day which is sweeeeeeeeeet.

Here are some clips, the first two clips are the first clips of the day if you look at the time stamp in the corner at the bottom left of the screen. Then it jumps to around 3.15pm where hopefully you might be able to notice some progression :)

Cheers

Such an awesome array of cars, 1.6 MX5's, 225 seat leon turbos, saab turbos, mr2's

Quite happy with that time for the first day on track :D

Looks like a good day budd.

How'd you rate the handling of the car? I read the clios are incredible for handling round a track?

Any more action shots including other cars?

Hey man

Yeah I absolutely loved it, the car handled so well to say the coilovers its on are really quite soft in comparison to other coilys. It is literally point and shoot! I experienced slight understeer but that was when really hammering it. Overall I was so impressed with the car though as it performed flawlessly over 70 miles on track!! :p

The two fastest cars that went around the track happened to be the only two clios there so that probably says what they're like and that's against a 300bhp golf gti, 225 golf leons etc

I'll post a few more pics.

I need to write down a few niggles that are annoying me so that if I keep seeing them i'll get them sorted. They're only small things but they've been building up and I don't want to just let stuff pass me by. So -

 • The exhaust is blowing at the cat to cat back section which needs to be sleeved. I need to go out and measure the diameters of the pipe so I can order some tubing to be welded to the cat back and cat.
 • Need to raise the left exhaust a bit but it's proving difficult with the mounts. Not sure how to fix.
 • The ABS sensor fault is still there (car over revving when coming to a stop, juddery set off). I am going to try and move the target further away from the driveshaft as when fitting the new one I might have put it too far on so that the sensor isn't picking it up properly.
 • The cruise control function isn't operating correctly however the speed limiting function is working absolutely great, implicating that my wiring on the steering wheel is spot on. Everything works as it should however the cruise control just simply doesn't activate. I wonder if it's related to the above fault as the vehicle speed isn't available = cruise won't activate.
 • Need to change gearbox oil as I changed it ages ago but not with the correct stuff
 • Fit the correct locking nut to the top of the topmounts. Currently using a random massive one and it looks stupid
 • Tabs have broken off on the gearstick gaitor so going to be ordering a second hand one asap.

On the plus side i've just bought a whiteline antiroll bar which will be here sometime next week :)

They're all really small things that just need sorting asap really.

I've done a few things, thank god :D

I fitted new black powerflex steering rack bushes the other day. It was a bit of a fiddly job but nothing my gay little piano fingers couldn't sort haha. Amazing guide on here for it too which really helped so thank you for that whoever did it :) My old bushes weren't too bad at all but it's nice knowing they're harder now.

I then received a whiteline ARB however the L bracket seen here that connect the arb to the shock weren't present as the seller couldn't find them. No worries though

20140812_180843_zps29c894f3.jpg

Went for a drive to wickes and B and Q and they didn't have any decent angle iron that I could use! All so short. Took a blurry as tits photo though

I then went to my local automotive shop up the road this place is an absolute godsend @bashracing will no doubt agree!! I found this from towing a caravan or something? No idea

I then marked where I needed to cut thanks to @1812lsd giving me a drawing from his brackets :) And all done, not the neatest job in the world but jesus it's stiff!!

Have I overtightned these bushes? They're not deformed or anything? @debussetti

Then started to de-wiper

Not sure if I like it, but I kind of do. I'm not really sure.

Personally, I like the rear wiper on mate. I also love having a rear wiper on the fabia, don't know what I'd do without it! Lol

Regardless of personal preference, it's a lovely looking car, you've done a cracking job with it.

I changed the other mount today. Jeeeeeesus that was incredibly easy compared to yesterday haha, literally 8 bolts!

I haven't had chance to fully spank it and test it but so far so good, no horrible noises and the engine doesn't move AT all now which is ace :D

My impressions are: The road is decent don't get me wrong but i'd be disappointed coming from any further away. It's fun but I much preferred the B roads getting there! I think it's the whole, massive summit that kinda puts me off. But other than that I loved it and glad it's finally off the bucket list :D

My headlamps have always annoyed me, mainly because one of them won't adjust and the other adjuster has always been broken so one headlight has always pointed down and the other pointing up so i've never really had the true "xenon experience" so I thought i'd look out for some 172 headlights as I love the black inserts @incy-spider knows my feels

This is what they turned up like. SO FADEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

17273165870_e186b48e56_b.jpgIMAG0090 by dann2707, on Flickr

So I sanded them back. I'm going to do the thing that EVERYONE does on here, if you look at some other threads where people have restored their headlights they always say something along the lines of "They're not perfect, but they're much better than before" hahah exactly the same this time

Anyway this was before, grey insert doesn't really go too well I think

Also, on the way home I thought i'd take a detour on some decent back roads. I've done a few other things today but jesus the car feels WAY more responsive.

I added a lot more oil as it was getting low and cleaned the TDC sensor.

The car makes me smile SO MUCH haha just the way it handles it's amazing and so fun, I know I say it a lot on here but I think it's easy to just splooge loads of pics of the car on a website but not actually say about the car and how it's driving. Loving it!

Today I gave the car some TLCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!

After changing the gearbox oil a few weeks ago, it started to leak. Well it has always leaked throughout my ownership from the gearbox selector seal. So I bought a kit from @mgd which arrived stupidly quickly, cheers again man.

17734989682_658d164143_b.jpgIMAG0134 by dann2707, on Flickr

I then started fitting it today, it wasn't a pain really. I expected it to be much worse but after watching the youtube video guide it made things really clear. The main bit I struggled with was fitting the new seal and o-rings. As it's a split design it doesn't evenly go into the gearbox, you really have to make sure you're putting equal pressure on it whilst pushing it on. It's a ****ing tight fit when it goes in and I was a little worried I was going to snap it and be left without both seals. All sorted though in the end :D

Just a pic to show the seal you're replacing, you have to cut that ****er off and when I say ****er I genuinely mean an absolute ******. It's not just plastic it's metal too

All on and cleaned

17117163623_19eb6f36c1_b.jpgIMAG0137 by dann2707, on Flickr

I then repalced the gearbox oil and engine oil and filter. I also fitted a ramair panel filter the other day as my standard filter was a state. This was only £20 on eBay. Not sure if it's made any difference but it's good to know that the car has been fully serviced now.

I also tightened my topmounts up or attempted to (PMS solid mounts, still loose though :(, think the bearing has gone in them both maybe??) and I slipped with the spanner. I've put a horrible scratch in my wing :( Really really annoyed at myself for that.

I received some wheels (team dynamic 1.2s in 15") and I think i'm in love. Obviously the colour isn't staying but I had to test fit them to see how they're going to fit and I think they look sooooooooo much better, especially as the rears are wider and stick out a bit more. Will be lowering the car more to suit when they're refurbed but here are some pics for now.

Please excuse our green bin. Really need to get rid of that disgusting overspray

How can you see my post i edited it. Well after i posted i googled it and it appeared to be more expensive than i thought it was.

Its just not a brand i have heard of before. Which doesn't really mean its bad

I would have stuck some castrol edge / mobil 1 esp / fuchs titan something branded like that. Especially as you use vpower in it and its obviously a car made for driving hard
