Found the source of my problems! Fingers crossed anyway

But basically I identified that the n/s bearing was totally gone when wobbling the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock positions, clonking loads and just really sloppy compared to the offside.

There is a lip on the bearing carrier. Picture doesn't really show it but running my finger along that shaft (:D) shows a big lip. I'm not exactly sure how long it's been like that. When I first got the car the bearing was loose so maybe tightening and loosening, tightening again has worn away some of that material.

The new bearing is still sat in my bedroom as I am just using the one that came with the replacement hub that I bought yesterday. I'm not sure whether to just run this one into the ground or replace it anyway seeing as though I have it here anyway.

  • Author

The replacement bearing is on and i'm fairly certain I didn't hear a single clunk when changing gear but I only had a 1 minute drive to the shops.

Hows the top mounts?

Bit of an update. From the very first day of owning the car I noticed a few imperfections with the paintwork that have constantly niggled at me. These being:

• both wing mirrors have scuffing on the edges from where the previous owner looks to have tried to fit down a spot they can't make. Along with the offside wing mirror having a crack in it and the nearside having specs in the paint

• offside trims have one scuff on them each as shown!

So I ordered some wing mirrors and side trims and started to spray them up over a week.

The final finish on them wasn't too great but I knew that i'd be able to get them looking fairly decent with some 2000 wet and dry, the machine polisher and some megs #205 cutting compound. Just a finishing polish as not much cutting would be required!

This was after spraying

Here is a video of the induction kit

I saw the induction kit thread, really wanting a sport now ;)

Was on track with a turbo'd 172 today, he paid £500 for the parts mostly second hand on a low boost ~260bhp set up.

Crazy wheel spinning machine lol

  • Author
Today I started stripping the spoiler of its paint. Paint stripper doesn't seem to be doing much so I might have to get the heat gun on it.

15716935036_35b9cbc66f_b.jpg20141108_115122 by dann2707, on Flickr

The spoiler is in great condition bar a few chips and a scratch however it is the wrong shade of colour as it's from a 172 so isn't arctic blue. Not a problem.

I then went for a drive and i'm really starting to get a bit weird about where I park in order not to get door dings :( haha Parked like this and crawled over into the passenger side to get out lol. This is it in a different location as opposed to my driveway like every other shot is haha

OOOOOh one thing I forgot, to day I changed the wishbone bushes to new ones just because really. The old ones look standard, not much play but I thought whilst i'm refreshing the suspension parts i'll do it. No pics though as it was chucking it down whilst I was doing it.

Heres the vid of induction kit driving btw.

I bought a cup spoiler, and messed up the spraying so sold that for a tidy £30 profit (accidently) haha!! so i've ordered a Clio V6 spoiler for the rear :D :D

But anyway a little update:

This is a pretty common mod to do but easily one of the best value for money mods. RS197 badge :D Tidies the back end up so much!

Me too, the shot of you hitting the bottom of a tin of 915 (after 5 years) should put a lot of us on here, me included, to shame with our purchasing antics.

Dan, how do you fancy a meet up before Christmas, I have a weird noise in the Superb when setting off in the Superb which I can't tell if it is related to Clutch/Fywheel or the haldex drivetrain.

I figure as you are mechnicaly gifted you can perhaps help me diagnose and fix and i can hook you up with a replacement for the Collinite?  Let me know bud.

This is where the brake light goes, the little dimple to the right (might even call it an inverted nipple for the lols) is the location of where you are to drill a pilot hole for the brake light. It's there for a reason.

And on the car. I didn't do it up tight so it looks like it doesn't fit flush but the bolts are on baby tight. Reason for doing this is just to make sure everything lines up correctly as i'm not going to want to faff around marking and drilling new holes once it's been painted. Good job I did this.. later pics will show.

The best thing about it is that it doesn't catch the roof like the proper renault V6 spoiler does which requires shorter boot struts, the final price of the renault spoiler and boot struts comes to £515!! :o

And my biggest complaint with the spoiler is that the middle two bolt holes do not line up with the cars original holes. Not an issue as i'll just mark and drill new holes there but still, you'd think they'd line up.

Overall i'm impressed with the spoiler for the price I paid £73. The quality of it isn't fantastic due to it being fibreglass and having a few manufacturing marks but i'm sure once i've sanded it down, keying it for paint it will look great.

Really happy with it and I think it's going to transform the rear end completely. Thanks for reading
