I'm back on a bike :)

Sold my last one (cube 160) to buy a clip 172 and build a track car (nearly finished). Missed it more than i thought i would and have been dying to get back out, picked my new lapierre zesty am 4.0 up yesterday. It comes as a 29er but has the option to run 650b which is what I'll be doing as soon as there built as I'm not a massive 29er fan.  Just spin the bottom pivot and it alters the geometry which is pretty neat.

Blimey that's a lower gear range than my last tourer or two has ever had, what's the tooth count on the back, is that a 50? what's on the front ring 30?

32t ?   thats huge !

1 x 10  11-46 and 28t front ring  ( came with a 30 )....not too fit and too old for downhill speed  😀

That's the same setup i had on the cube all be it the front was an oval 32t.

The plan with this was to buy something i won't have to chuck a load of money at like the last one.

I have got some 27.5" wheels lined up as i preferred that size and this can run both, by altering the bottom pivot it changes the geometry which is pretty cool. I may change to an oval front ring again as i noticed a difference with that on the climbs but for now I'm going to enjoy being back on the trails as I've missed them this last year :)

Had a few people recommend an oval 30 so may try that at some point.

At the moment the BB is a new Suntour 1x so limited to swap out chainrings, came from US, cheap enough to try and I still have the 30.

If/ when the BB needs changing I'll be going Shimano for a wider choice

Oval changed climbs for me 100%, some people seem to see a difference and some don't. Personal preference i guess.

 I doubt you improved by 100% 😉

These ovals are not new they used to be called biopace back in the 80's, they only work if the oval profile corresponds to your power point. I have 2 mates with it and one likes it and the other doesn't.

Maybe not 100% :D but they made them better/easier i found and improved my riding, my brother has one too and he says he doesn't notice a difference.

Other mates say they work for them amd some dont.

I’m another cyclist whose recently joined.

I currently have 5 bikes in regular use.

Top left is my Dolan DR2 which is my main bike used for fast group rides and general summer training.

Middle left is my Planet X Kaffenback, I’ve owned this for years and love riding it as it is super comfortable.   I use this for commuting and audax rides, neither of which I have done this year yet.

Bottom left is my Giant TT bike,   A few years old but it’s good enough for my standard, I just use this for local club TT events.

Top right is my Specialised Allez, it is permanently connected to the Turbo trainer now and I use it for Zwift riding.  I ride and race for the JDRF Team Type 1 team on Zwift.

Bottom right is a Cannondale Trail 29er, I don’t go off road much but it’s nice to occasionally just for a change.

I'm still riding the same bike I bought in the 80's, it has oval front sprockets, I have never known any different.

Its a Dawes Switchback and been faultlessly reliable, last year after 30+ years of use the Shimano selector for the rear hub finally failed and I was delighted to find a new old stock one on E-bay that had to come all the way from Singapore, cost more than a new bike from any of the sheds like Decathlon but what price do you put on the head of a faithfull companion that has travelled around the world with you?

And when I got it t was used and not new old stock 🙁

Decathlon bikes are actually fairly decent, halfords on the other hand sell some right tat.

New to the forums here but a keen mountain biker too- entered my first enduro race in October, hopefully it will still be going ahead.

This is my ride-2016 Boardman Team FS with a few upgrade. Nukeproof Horizon 780mm bars, DMR V12  Magnesium pedals and DMR Deathgrips, and Maxxis Aggressors tyres front and rear.

Was out for the first time in ages yesterday. I'm so unfit 😪

But I got a new Focus Whistler last summer to go out with the boy (now kids). Not sure which model it is, it seems to be between some of the range.

Also have a Specialized Allez but there is no way I'm ready to get back on a road bike yet.

my usual routes are not quite so scenic 😢

I was 'gifted' £500 to spend on anything i wanted so.....

the bike i 'exported' to France and swore not to spend too much on it, ye right! the forks were pogo sticks so courtesy of Bike24 Germany it now has Rockshox Recon solo air's and ready to go back to France after a good service and new chain. forks are also over a Kilo lighter

ibzoBlC.jpg

so as i originally had the Whyte as a replacement for the no-spend Felt i felt guilty so decided a fork upgrade was also needed  🙄

nothing available new so off to the Bay of e we went....Fox factory 34 kashima's from France £380!  these are also lighter by 700g's

mZUnxLq.jpg

so as i was sorting out 2 bikes at the same time obviously something would go awry...turns out 110 boost doesnt fit into a 100 fork...oops! :giggle:

so it was either a DT Swiss hub or similar and rebuild the rim or a new wheel(set) ?

very low stock anywhere of anything remotely able to fit front and rear so Bike24 to the rescue again.

Mavic Crossride front £78, ordered Sun pm, arrived from Germany Wed pm

all now sorted

sKaMAXR.jpg

Mavic decals are too brash for me so will be stripped

gonna take some setting up the Fox's....air, sag, rebound's, compression

Oh yes, budget?  blown obviously by at least £100 :)

This past week has been fantastic cycling weather.

I have got pretty tanned but that is from sitting with my cycling helmet off & just watching the world go by as usually the bonce is rather pale.

I put my young lads trials bike back together with a set of wheels i had sitting as the ones he last rode it with 20 years ago are not fit for purpose.

I gave it a wee ride but really it needs to go to someone that will appreciate what it is and that will fit suitable wheels.

Might try flogging it at a Bike Festival for what the frame cost 25 years ago, let alone the Middleburn cranks, titanium BB and Maguras.
