Briski cyclists?!

I'll be happy when i can get back out full stop!

 

i MUST stop sitting on the PC and ordering stuff :D

so far  the list is

2 pairs pads

2 180 floating rotors

10sp chain

11-46 cassette for the Whyte

mineral brake oil

enduro straps x3

Shimano RD M5210 SGS rear derailleur

Shimano SL M4100 shifter

RaceFace Aeffect crankset.

 

RaceFace cranks are going on the Whyte along with the new cassette, rotors and pads

derailleur/shifter, Xeron crankset off the Whyte, spare Saint BB and used cassette are going on the Felt - the one i said i'd never spend money on upgrading  :wall:

 

just realised i also need a DM chainring for the RaceFace...oops

It could end if I really, really tried... 

I need to look at options re the chainring

At the moment I don't know if I'll ever be going back to a 30t, 28t suits me at the moment. 

I was tempted to go 165 cranks and 30 oval but I don't really want to take the seat much higher and put more strain on wrists long term. I've stayed with 175s and will probably stay 28 TBH. 

The Xeron setup will remain as is on the Felt, not so much climbing in our area in France so the thinking is I know that both bikes will be the same gears wise. 

The Felt will remain in France, only back here due to servicing it last May when we returned and obviously not being able to go back easily yet.

Its a disease..... 15 bikes in the family and with bike shops as busy as they are I seem to have become the 'friends and family' mechanic too... 

 

Currently in the workshop I have a friends daughter's Marlin 5 for a full service and 'do what I can' with the Suntour  boingy forks, a 24" wheel BSO to get as functional as I can for another friends child, my gravel bike for some different bars 'cause the 25° flare bars are just not for me, and my best bike in for a bit of a fettle before LEJOG.

 

That lot should keep me busy. Biggest issue with all of it is getting the parts, luckily I have a limited stock of common wear items that I built up.

 

Still riding 100+ miles a week in prep for LEJOG too. Beginning to wonder if its gone beyond hobby into 'obsession' territory :-)

so the bits are flying in  :)

luckily the OH's birthday is soon so i dont have to open any in front of her but will she notice there were more parcels than presents?  :giggle:

 

just waiting on the rear cassette, Derailleur and the DM chainring...

 

quick test fit today whilst she's out and chainring now ordered...

i compromised and went oval but with 28t  :D

had to go orange as no black available which she WILL notice but i'll just say it was worn out anyway...

 

£340....some are service items just to make me feel better...

£125 to change to Raceface but £85 to fit the old Xeron's to the Felt...i'm sure with man-maths i feel like it's a bargain?

 

unless i get caught out of course  :x

Off for the week to try and break the back of the garden project.... 

Waiting on a bulk bag of Cotswold chippings and the OH went out at 11.30 and not due back until 7.45 ish and the cassette conveniently arrived at 11.45, soooooo.... 

 

New stuff on the Whyte, older and some new on the Felt 😏

I'm not too sure on the jump to the 46 on the Shimano, Sun Race is a steady even rise but we'll give it a go and see. Needs a bit of attention to fine tune it but need to have a quick ride to bed it in first. 

Felt doesn't seem too bad, again a short spin out needed to see where that is on shifting

Returner to the fold - in the bad old days I hadn't ridden since a kid. Around the time of selling that car (2015), I got into a work-sponsored charity sportive and was bitten. These days I race and am treasurer of both my club and BC South East region. 

 

Only ride Wilier (long story) and have 3 of them - pics to come...

Spud Sr on his first Blue Way adventure last night... 6 1/2, got the bike last summer but the winter was fairly **** for pedalling, and he wasnt really feeling it, so stabilisers only gone 2 months ago... and an 8.5k cycle done :D

even let him drop down the rough stuff of the embankment when we were at the park. its maybe a 5ft drop it was colossal thing for him :) no pics of that though,

Btwin 900AF with 105

Felt 650 cyclo cross bike with 105

Specialised allez s winter bike with full mudguards

Lightweight foldie being converted to drop bars...

 

And favourite ride: Los Cristianos at sea level to paramor del teide 2500+ metres altitude, via villaflor.

ok my god, blocks are a pain in the arse.. 1mm off on any axis and theyll either kill you by not working at all or working so well they throw you off into the ditch.

 You forgot working moderately well by abrading the tyre, but then the tube lets go with a massive bang, oh  and a fair chance of red (or indeed brown 🤢 stuff) leaking!

I'd forgotten how fiddly setting up blocks was 😀

Get the carrier type next time, the brake shows are replaceable and easier to set up.

Only one rim brake bike left in regular use in the family thank god, and that's road calipers so a bit easier. My 1992 MTB is rim, but that's basically a museum piece now.

 

I know people seem to go on about how rim brakes are fine, and disks are so much problem etc etc, but in my experience with all of our bikes, disks are massively more reliable. They need less fiddling and adjustment and are easier to swap out pads and rotors when they are toast, as well as just being more powerful and more reliable in adverse weather.

Problem solved.. 🙄

He's been left some money by M in L when she passed recently and currently he cycles 7mile each way to work, leaves at 11pm and finishes 8am ish and his route is brutal, up and down hence cooked brakes. 

Currently Carrera Hybrid thingy and rides in work gear, rucksack and Rigger boots so ebike decided on. 

Ordered 6pm yesterday, due for delivery tomorrow pre 9am apparently, we'll see 🤔

Bought some new tyres in the Black Friday Sales, but broke 4 tyre levers (of questionable age) getting them on the rims AND punctured the rear inner tube in 2 places 😱 So a quick swap took much longer than planned and lead to a lot more swearing.

 

They're on the bike now at least!

Maybe it's to provide downforce 🙄

 

Conversely it seems (to me) that front mudguards often seem short and flick muck up higher as a result.
